Buena Park School District Amazes with ‘Jungle Book’ Performance
Corey School students wowed parents and community members when they transformed themselves into panthers, elephants, monkeys and other inhabitants of the jungles of India during their musical theater performances of “The Jungle Book Kids.” The play, which ran from Feb. 25-27, featured songs from the 1967 Disney animated film “The Jungle Book” about a boy named Mowgli who is beset by the tiger Shere Khan.
Buena Park School District Students Thrill Community during Choral Festival
About 220 Buena Park School District students crooned, grooved and danced their way through seven decades of music for more than 600 applauding parents and community members during the District’s third annual Choral Festival. The “Blast from the Past” themed festival on Feb. 20 featured students dressed as rockers, hippies and disco dancers as they sang popular songs from the 1950s through the 2010s at Thanksgiving Church.

Pendleton School’s new Wellness Center is providing students with a spirited way to connect with others, build a welcoming school atmosphere and exercise responsible behaviors. The Wellness Center contains dozens of games to teach teamwork and boost leadership qualities while advocating the importance of social-emotional growth. A counselor is also available to speak with students four days a week. The center will also be available to students as a reward for exhibiting good conduct and academic achievement.
Buena Park School District to Honor Pendleton School Students
Buena Park School District will honor seven Pendleton School students for exemplifying superb core ethical values and making a friendly campus atmosphere at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24 at the Board of Education meeting. Buena Park School District’s main office is at 6885 Orangethorpe Ave., Buena Park.
Nearly 100 Buena Park School District parents learned how their children will receive in-depth instruction in video production, coding, engineering and college preparedness during the District’s recent Passion Program Project Showcase. The showcase, held at Buena Park Junior High School on Jan. 23, featured information booths about each school’s Passion Program and described how elementary school programs will feed into middle schools to create strong educational pathways.
Sixty-one Buena Park School District students were recently honored for achieving the highest possible scores on state standardized tests for English language arts (ELA) and math taken in spring 2019, earning them praise from friends, family members and the District. Friends, family members and District staff cheered on the students, who range from grades four through eight, during a special ceremony on Nov. 13 at the Buena Park Community Center. Of the 61 awardees, 13 students were honored for achieving perfect scores on both ELA and math state tests.
Buena Park School District to Honor Gilbert School Students
Buena Park School District will honor seven Gilbert School students for exemplifying superb core ethical values and making a friendly campus atmosphere during a Board of Education meeting at 5 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27 at 6885 Orangethorpe Ave. Gilbert School.,Buena Park. Gilbert School administrators will also give a presentation on its goals for continuing to boost student achievement in 2020.
Charles G. Emery School has been named a California Distinguished School, joining the ranks of 323 elementary schools that received the award on Dec. 18. Emery School was recognized for its Balanced Literacy program, which encourages students to develop a love of reading. The effort has boosted English language arts state test scores.
