  • El Monte Union Set to Welcome Students to a New Year of Tradition, Achievement

    More than 7,200 students will return to El Monte Union High School District (EMUHSD) for the first day of the 2025-26 school year, which will include spirited campus celebrations, milestone events, and warm welcomes from Associated Student Body and Link Crew leaders, faculty, staff, and administrators. Celebrations will take place across the District, including El Monte High School’s debut of a new state-of-the-art athletic facility, South El Monte High will celebrate two students recently sworn-in as EMUHSD student board members, and Rosemead and Arroyo high schools will commemorate their 75th anniversaries of academic excellence.

  • El Monte Union Celebrates Swearing-In of New 2025-26 Student Board Members

    The El Monte Union High School District (EMUHSD) Board of Trustees made history in the District by expanding student representation with the swearing-in of two Student Board Members, Ashley Yu and Tessa Ocegueda, for the 2025-26 school year at the District’s Aug. 6 Board meeting. Yu and Ocegueda, both South El Monte High School students, will represent the voice of nearly 7,200 EMUHSD students. They step into newly-created leadership roles, with Yu serving as Student Board Member President and Ocegueda as Vice President. Both will continue their service on the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council, where they served last school year.

  • El Monte Union to Rename Ledesma High Facility, Pay Tribute to Beloved Educators

    El Monte Union High School District (EMUHSD) will host a dedication ceremony to celebrate the renaming of Fernando R. Ledesma High School’s newly renovated multi-purpose building and gymnasium. The facility will be renamed the Freddy and Bernie Arteaga and Frank Ogaz Center, honoring two longtime educators and a former Board of Trustees President whose decades of service have helped transform the lives of countless students across the District.

State Grant to Bolster El Monte Union Student College Savings Accounts

The El Monte Promise Foundation has won a $448,000 Every Kid Counts state grant that will enable the nonprofit to expand its college savings program for K-12 students, including those enrolled in El Monte Union High School District schools. The California Student Aid Commission awarded $2.9 million in grants to nine nonprofit organizations and agencies across the state that sponsor or administer programs that incentivize families with children to open and maintain college savings accounts. The El Monte Promise Foundation, a partner of El Monte Union, launched its savings program in 2015 to help cultivate a college-going culture in El Monte.

El Monte Union Student Wins 32nd Congressional District Art Competition

For the next year, Mountain View High School student Nancy Hoang’s artwork will hang in the U.S. Capitol Building after she won first place in the 2019 art competition for the 32nd Congressional District, represented by U.S. Rep. Grace F. Napolitano. Napolitano’s office received 76 art pieces from 13 high schools across the San Gabriel Valley. Hoang won first place with her colored pencil drawing, “Orange Fish.”

El Monte Union to Celebrate Class of 2019

El Monte Union will celebrate its Class of 2019 with graduations on Thursday, June 6: Fernando R. Ledesma High at 5 p.m. at the high school; South El Monte High School at 6 p.m. at Eagle Stadium; Arroyo High School at 7 p.m. at Bergstrom Stadium; El Monte High School at 7 p.m. at Lion Field; Mountain View High School at 7 p.m. at Viking Stadium; and Rosemead High School at 7 p.m. at Panther Field. El Monte-Rosemead Adult School celebrated high school diploma recipients on May 29.

El Monte Union Board of Trustees to Recognize Pride Month

The El Monte Union Board of Trustees will honor LGBTQ Pride Month with a celebration featuring a symbolic pin distribution, raising of a rainbow pride flag and a reception at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 15. The Board of Trustees at its May 1 meeting adopted a resolution recognizing June as LGBTQ Pride Month, celebrating the identities and contributions of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community.

El Monte Union to Compete at National Aquatic Engineering Competition

After winning first place in the high school division of the 2019 Los Angeles Regional SeaPerch competition in March, the South El Monte High School Scuba Squad will showcase its underwater robotics skills at a national competition June 1-2 at the University of Maryland. Schools from 31 states, Puerto Rico and New Zealand will compete in the nationals.

El Monte Union Celebrates LGBTQ Pride Month with Flag-raising Ceremony

The El Monte Union High School District Board of Trustees honored LGBTQ Pride Month with a celebration on May 15 featuring a symbolic pin distribution, raising of a rainbow pride flag and a reception hosted by Rosemead High School culinary arts students. The program featured LGBTQ organizations, student clubs and remarks from Board of Trustees Vice President Florencio Briones.

Arroyo High Culinary Arts Students Win District Cooking Competition

Arroyo High School on May 1 was declared the winner of El Monte Union’s inaugural Cooking Showdown, a cooking competition in which student chefs from three El Monte Union high schools squared off to prepare a full meal. Filmed by Mountain View's VISTA Academy video production class, the game show-style competition featured three teams of six students receiving identical surprise ingredients and being given 75 minutes to plan and prep their dishes.
