    El Monte Union High School District (EMUHSD) and two of its campuses—Arroyo High School and El Monte High School—have been recognized among California’s top-performing institutions, earning placement on the Educational Results Partnership’s (ERP) 2025 Honor Roll. The ERP Honor Roll recognizes schools and districts that consistently demonstrate high levels of student achievement, California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) scores, improvement over time, and reduced achievement gaps among historically underserved student populations. Approximately 21% of eligible districts statewide earned this distinction in 2025.

    El Monte High School history teacher Sara Quezada, a 37-year educator known for her innovative teaching and steadfast dedication to students, has been named El Monte Union High School District’s 2025-26 Teacher of the Year.     Arroyo High School (AHS) teacher Tony Wong was honored by Assemblymember Mike Fong as one of 14 educators recognized during Fong’s third annual Outstanding Educators Awards ceremony on Sept. 13 at the Garvey Community Center in Rosemead. Selected from hundreds of nominees across the 49th Assembly District, Wong was praised for his dedication to student success and his leadership in transforming the school’s advanced mathematics programs. The awards highlight educators who go above and beyond to support their students at all grade levels.

El Monte Union Kicks Off College Application Season with Workshops

El Monte Union High School District is hosting Cash for College workshops to help families access financial aid and other college resources. Attendees will get help with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and California Dream Act application. Workshops will run from: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7 at South El Monte High School, 1001 Durfee Ave., South El Monte; and from 11:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 at Fernando Ledesma High School, 12347 Ramona Blvd., El Monte.

El Monte Union Students to Learn Budgeting Skills During Mad City Money

More than 100 El Monte Union business and finance students will receive a crash course in personal finance management during Mad City Money, a hands-on simulation that presents students with many aspects of working life – a job, set income, a family and debt. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Thursday, Oct. 24 at El Monte High School, 3048 Tyler Ave., El Monte.

El Monte Union Families Explore College, Career Options at Annual Conference

More than 500 El Monte-area middle and high school students and their families learned skills on how to succeed in high school, prepare for college and achieve their personal goals during El Monte Union’s second annual College and Career Family Conference, called “The Places You’ll Go!” Held in partnership with El Monte City and Mountain View school districts, the El Monte Promise Foundation, Rio Hondo College and UC Irvine, the Oct. 19 conference offered over 30 workshops in English and Spanish covering a range of topics, including financial aid, college entrance requirements, resources for Dream Act students and a review of the UC and CSU systems.

El Monte Union Strengthens Commitment to Healthy Living with Opening of Eco-Garden

Arroyo High School officially opened its Regenerative Learning Garden – a 1-acre site that will double as a community garden and learning laboratory for students studying horticulture and water conservation – during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 21. Developed through a partnership with Eco-Urban Gardens and the U.S. Green Building Council Los Angeles (USGBC-LA), the student-run garden underscores El Monte Union’s commitment to supporting ecological solutions and sustainable living in the greater El Monte community.

El Monte Union Kicks Off College Application Season

El Monte High School welcomed hundreds of students and their parents for the District’s annual College Night on Sept. 23. Students met with representatives from over 40 colleges and universities and participated in activities in preparation for college and financial aid application season. Students received information on programs, activities, entrance requirements and degrees offered by two- and four-year universities, including UC Berkeley, UCLA, Cal State Los Angeles, Cal Poly Pomona, University of La Verne and Rio Hondo College.

El Monte Union to Hold Annual College Night on Sept. 23

El Monte Union High School District will host its annual College Night at El Monte High School on Monday, Sept. 23, providing students and parents the opportunity to meet with college representatives from more than 40 colleges and universities and learn more about the college entrance process. Students from all of the District’s high schools are invited to participate in the event, taking place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at El Monte High School, 3048 Tyler Ave., El Monte.

El Monte Union’s Arroyo High to Unveil Learning Garden

In conjunction with Eco Urban Gardens, Arroyo High School will celebrate the grand opening of its Regenerative Learning Garden at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at 4921 Cedar Ave., El Monte. The event will include garden tours, harvesting, seed planting, yoga, face painting, recycled arts and crafts, guest speakers and more. Vegan food will be provided by the Arroyo High School garden.

El Monte Union College Night to Feature More than 40 Universities

El Monte Union High School District will host its annual College Night from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23 at El Monte High School, 3048 Tyler Ave., El Monte. The event will provide students and parents the opportunity to explore dozens of colleges and universities and learn more about what steps to take to enter a two- or four-year university. Students from all the District’s high schools are invited to participate

El Monte Union School Library Awarded $5K Barona Mission Indians Grant

Mountain View High School's library on Aug. 23 was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Barona Band of Mission Indians, which will go to buy reading materials for the school's beginning English students. Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio was on hand to support Mountain View's efforts to provide beginning English students – many of whom are new young immigrants – with books, ebooks, audiobooks and magazines. The Barona grant would also support additional students whose home language is not English, students who are studying to obtain bi-literacy certificates and students in AP Spanish.
