  • Fontana Unified Students Take Flight in Aviation CTE Pathway Program

    For A.B. Miller High School junior Jeremy Millias, the Aviation Career Technical Education (CTE) pathway is not only a rigorous, educational program filled with hands-on training, but also a close-knit community that has shaped his high school experience. This year, A.B. Miller’s aviation pathway serves nearly 120 students across introductory and advanced courses. The two-year sequence mirrors private pilot ground school, covering weather, federal regulations, performance calculations, navigation charts, aircraft systems, and aviation communication. Students also gain hands-on experience in flight simulator labs, where they practice maneuvers, plan safe routes, calculate wind corrections, and learn real-world decision-making skills used by licensed pilots.

  • Fontana Unified CTE Students Showcase First Student-Built District Float in Fontana Christmas Parade

    Fontana High School’s General Construction Career Technical Education (CTE) pathway students brought their craftsmanship, creativity, and teamwork to the community this season by designing and building a parade float that featured Board of Education members, student board representatives, and Fontana Unified’s Superintendent Miki R. Inbody during the 2025 Fontana Christmas Parade on Dec. 13. The team consisted of 14 students who used a full range of construction techniques they learned in the pathway, transforming raw materials into a polished centerpiece for one of the city’s signature annual events. The float, themed “Believe in the Magic of Learning,” features an eight-seat platform, blending Christmas elements with academic inspiration, including an oversized hand-built book displaying the float’s theme.

  • Fontana Unified Teacher Named California League of Middle School’s Region 10 Educator of the Year

    Monica Jauregui, an English Language Development (ELD) teacher at Harry S. Truman Middle School, shares a similar background with her students: her parents immigrated to the United States when they were in grade school, not knowing any English, and Jauregui herself was an English learner. Her experiences fuel her to ensure students of all backgrounds can thrive, leading her to take on multiple roles as an English Language Learner (ELL) monitor and Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Excel teacher.

Fontana Unified’s Summit High Recognized as an AVID Highly Certified Site

Follow-up Story: Summit High School was named a 2017-18 Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Highly Certified Site for encouraging independent thinkers, increasing the college-going rate to four-year universities and providing students with tools for academic and professional success. In 2016-17, 59 of the 60 seniors enrolled in AVID were accepted to four-year universities. AVID works to narrow the achievement gap between the lowest- and highest-performing students and increase the number who pursue higher education.

Fontana Unified’s Sequoia Middle School Named to Schools to Watch List

Follow-up Story: Fontana Unified’s Sequoia Middle School is one of 22 schools in California named to the 2018 California Schools to Watch list for improving student achievement, creating a positive campus culture through student programs and teacher training, and lowering its suspension rate. Sequoia Middle School will accept the award in Sacramento on Saturday, March 3 and hold a campus celebration on Tuesday, March 6.

Fontana Adult School to Host Free ESL and Citizenship Classes

Fontana Adult School will hold free English as a Second Language (ESL) and citizenship classes from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 6. Classes will be held at Eric Birch High School, 7930 Locust Ave., Fontana. Call 909-357-5310 to learn more.

Fontana Unified’s Alder Middle School to Host Nutrition Class

Fontana Unified’s Alder Middle School will hold free nutrition classes from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, providing families with tools to learn healthy recipes and plan budget-friendly meals. Fontana Unified to Host Free Family Wellness Workshops for Parents

Fontana Unified School District will hold free Parent University workshops from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, highlighting strategies for promoting health and wellness for the entire family. The workshops will be at the John D. Piazza Educational Center, 9680 Citrus Ave., Fontana. Childcare services for children ages 3 to 11 will be available, as well as translation services.
