  • Fontana Unified Board of Education Elevates Student Voices with New Student Board Member

    Fontana Unified School District is elevating student voices in District leadership with the selection of Kaiser High School junior Julian Villeda as the Student Board Member for the 2026-27 school year. In this role, Villeda will represent nearly 32,000 Fontana Unified students, helping bring student perspectives into Board discussions and Districtwide decision-making. Villeda, who boasts a 4.12 GPA, has attended Fontana Unified schools since he was four years old and said he hopes to serve as a bridge between students and District leaders.

  • Fontana Unified Showcases Student Leadership, Real-World Learning During State of the District Celebration

    Fontana Unified School District celebrated a year of student achievement, innovation, and opportunity during its annual State of the District on April 22, centered on the theme “Opening Doors: Students Dream. Students Lead. Students Rise.” The event, held at Jurupa Hills High School, brought together students, families, educators, and community leaders to highlight the District’s commitment to preparing every student for success in college, career, and beyond. The event began with a spotlight on student talent, as Summit High School’s orchestra welcomed guests, joined by cheerleaders from Maple Elementary, Chaparral Academy of Technology, and Harry S. Truman and Sequoia middle schools. Inside the theater, Kaiser High School’s orchestra continued the program with a dynamic musical performance, with A.B. Miller High School student Ralston Good leading the Pledge of Allegiance and Jurupa Hills High School student Paige Pedroza singing the national anthem, setting the tone for an afternoon centered on student talent.

  • Cypress Elementary Garden Nurtures Student Learning, Well-Being on Earth Day

    Cypress Elementary School students now have access to a calming sensory environment and expanded hands-on learning opportunities through the school’s newly revitalized campus garden, unveiled during an Earth Day ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 22. More than 200 students, staff, community members, and representatives from partner organizations attended the celebration, with Earth Day-themed signs and balloons lining the garden as attendees gathered for the unveiling. Cypress Garden Club students worked for weeks planting the new garden for their peers to enjoy.

Fontana Unified Middle School to Host Día de los Muertos Festival

Southridge Tech Middle School will hold its third annual Día de los Muertos Festival from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1. Families are invited to enjoy refreshments and Mariachi, baile folklórico and Aztec dance performances. Southridge Tech Middle School is at 14500 Live Oak Ave., Fontana.

Fontana High School to Host AVID Showcase for Local Educators

Fontana High School will highlight its Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program for area teachers, principals, superintendents and school board members from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 9453 Citrus Ave., Fontana. Fontana High is an AVID National Demonstration School. Educators will attend AVID classes and tutorials, learn about AVID’s schoolwide impact and see how Fontana High boosts academic success for all students.

Fontana Unified Collects Donations for Military CARE Packages

Fontana Unified is partnering with Burrtec, Inc. and Veterans Partnering with Communities, Inc. to gather donations and create CARE packages for active duty military members. Fontana Unified teachers, students and staff will be collecting and donating food, toiletries, entertainment items and clothing and writing letters to the military through Friday, Oct. 18. Donation drop-off sites are located throughout Fontana Unified.

Fontana Unified Elementary School to Hold Multicultural Night

Sierra Lakes Elementary School students and families will build relationships and promote intercultural understanding during Multicultural Night, held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 5740 Avenal Place, Fontana. Families will collaborate with the school to create booths – which may feature storytelling, food, dance and art – based on their own countries of origin, backgrounds, beliefs and customs.

Fontana Unified Marching Band Earns 2nd Place at L.A. County Fair

Henry J. Kaiser High School’s Catamount Pride Band and Color Guard captured second place in its category at the L.A. County Fair on Sept. 20, returning home with a $5,000 prize for their excellence. The L.A. County Fair High School Marching Band Competition invites local high school marching bands to compete during the fair’s daily parades in hopes of winning a cash prize. Bands compete in three categories: Open Class, for bands of all sizes; Class A, for bands of 65 or more, and Class B, for bands of 64 or less. Kaiser’s success in the Open Class category continues a tradition of success for the Catamount Pride Band and Color Guard, which represented Fontana Unified on a world stage as the premier band in the 2019 Tournament of Roses.
