Buena Park School District’s Kid Connection Leader Inspires Learning
For 16 years, Marilee Perini has been making summer school fun for Buena Park School District students, allowing them to decorate classrooms, discover the Newport Dunes and learn about dog breeds and reptiles from pet assemblies through the Kid Connection program she coordinates. Through Kid Connection, both during the summer and regular school year, Perini crafts lesson plans that focus on improving students’ academic and social skills.

Buena Park School District Teacher Hosts Summer Reading Program
Gilbert School kindergarten teacher Leslee Milch said her favorite aspect of summer is being able to read her favorite books, complete with silly voices and singing, for students and community members through her weekly Read with Me! program at Bellis Park. Milch, a National Board Certified teacher, created the program when she realized many of her students had few opportunities to practice reading skills during summer break.

Arthur F. Corey and Charles G. Emery elementary schools credit reading, writing and math workshops, student intervention and after-school programs for narrowing the achievement gap and earning them spots on the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE) 2018-19 Honor Roll.
Buena Park Special Education Summer Program Sparks Growth
Buena Park School District’s special education students are spending the summer painting, playing outside and socializing thanks to an extended school year services program designed to keep students motivated beyond the regular school year. The special education summer program helps 70 pre-kindergarten through seventh-grade students hone gross and fine motor skills and improve social skills as they decorate classrooms and play counting games. The special education summer program, which runs through June 28, helps 70 pre-kindergarten through seventh-grade students hone gross and fine motor skills and improve social skills as they decorate classrooms and play counting games.
Buena Park School District’s Kid Connection summer program provides students with the opportunity to go on field trips, advance math skills and learn about animals such as the bearded dragon and other reptiles during special assemblies.
Nearly 500 Buena Park Junior High School eighth-graders broke out in thunderous applause during their school’s promotion ceremony on May 29, with some jumping from their seats to signify their eagerness to start their high school careers.
Buena Park’s Emery School Students Shine at 6th-grade Promotion
Emery School students filled the halls of Thanksgiving Church with laughter and applause as they spent their final elementary school day reflecting on friendships, hugging and saying goodbye during their school’s sixth-grade promotion ceremony. The school’s ceremony took place May 31 with 76 students awarded for finishing their elementary school years, participating in clubs and achieving academic milestones.
