El Monte City School District to Host Blood Drive
El Monte City School District’s child development program is hosting a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4
p.m. Tuesday, June 4 at 2131 Loma Ave., South El Monte. Each donor must be in good health, be at least
17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Donors will have the option of receiving a $5 In-N-Out gift
card or T-shirt.
Bassett Unified Students Discuss Mental Health with U.S. Representatives

Monrovia Unified’s Wild Rose Elementary Students Share GATE Projects
Fourth- and fifth-grade Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) students from Wild Rose School of Creative Arts studied cultural literacy as they researched historical people. Students put together a GATE museum on May 30, creating living exhibits in which each portrayed an historical person. Students spoke about painter Bob Ross, musician David Bowie, scientist Stephen Hawking and more. The event ended with a student-directed play illustrating the life of artist Normal Rockwell.
San Gabriel Unified Receives $260,000 Grant to Increase Digital Access
San Gabriel Unified School District has been awarded a T-Mobile EmpowerED grant to aid in its efforts to improve digital access for students and narrow the achievement gap. The $260,000 award will fund 1,000 devices and mobile broadband lines; Jefferson Middle School, Del Mar High School and Gabrielino High School will receive 250 mobile broadband lines, while San Gabriel Unified’s five elementary schools will receive 750 lines.
Expanding Inglewood Unified School Holds Informational Meeting
Inglewood Unified’s Beulah Payne School held an informational meeting to detail the school’s expansion to include seventh- and eighth-graders on May 30. The meeting offered a chance to explore the school’s renovated campus.
San Gabriel Unified Educators Honored for Special Needs Dedication
Ten San Gabriel Unified educators were honored during the May 28 Governing Board meeting for their success in implementing Classroom Pivotal Response Training (CPRT) in SGUSD schools. CPRT is an evidenced-based practice that aims to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Lynwood Unified Celebrates Mental Health Awareness
Lynwood Unified celebrated Mental Health Awareness month on May 24 with an event featuring engaging activities, informational booths and puppies at Firebaugh High School. The National Alliance on Mental Illness partnered with the District to provide information on topics like post-traumatic stress disorder and anxiety.
Inglewood Unified School Celebrates Athletics, Culture at Olympic Event
Students at Inglewood Unified’s Hudnall Elementary competed in athletic events at a schoolwide Olympic event on May 29 at Caroline Coleman Stadium. Each class was given a country to represent as they competed in team events such as the 50-yard dash, the long jump and relay races. The Los Angeles Chargers sponsored the event and provided gold, silver and bronze medals.
As El Monte Union High School District prepares to celebrate more than 2,000 members of the Class of 2019 on Thursday, June 6, one high school is rejoicing over its graduating AVID scholars – 100 percent of whom have committed to pursuing post-secondary education, with 90 percent accepted to four-year universities.
Nearly 100 students and staff members of Abbott Elementary will showcase artwork throughout the walls of the school’s campus in celebration of its participation in the Turnaround Arts: California program. The Inside Out Project will make a visual statement about the school’s commitment to leveraging the arts for educational equity. Abbott was accepted into the Turnaround Arts program in summer 2018, providing teacher training, a regional coach to facilitate Abbott’s strategic arts plan and coordinated support for public arts events.
