  • Fontana Unified to Celebrate Class of 2024 Graduates with Commencement Ceremonies

    Fontana Unified School District will celebrate the Class of 2024 with vibrant commencement ceremonies for more than 2,000 students set to graduate from the District’s seven high schools and adult school. The District will host eight ceremonies at two locations over three days starting with Fontana Adult School, Eric Birch, and Citrus high schools at the Ontario Convention Center at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 5 p.m., respectively, on Tuesday, May 21. FUSD’s remaining graduations will be hosted at Toyota Arena with A.B. Miller, Jurupa Hills, and Fontana high schools at 1 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 8 p.m., respectively, on Wednesday, May 22, and Henry J. Kaiser and Summit high schools concluding the week at 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively, on Thursday, May 23. Ontario Convention Center is located at 2000 E. Convention Center Way, Ontario. Toyota Center is located at 4000 Ontario Center, Ontario.

  • Fontana Unified High School Band to Represent Congresswoman Torres at National Memorial Day Parade

    Henry J. Kaiser High School's Catamount Pride Band will showcase their skills before a national audience after being selected to represent Congresswoman Norma Torres at the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington D.C. on May 27. The appearance checks off a milestone goal for Kaiser High Band Director Robert Ronquillo and adds to the group’s rich history of excellence and performing on a national stage. Kaiser’s full band played at the annual Rose Parade® in 2019, while two band members were also selected to march with the Pasadena City College’s Tournament of Roses Honor Band this January.

  • Fontana Unified Elementary School Receives Donation of More Than 400 Books to Boost Literacy Initiative

    Almond Elementary School students and community members are benefitting from a donation of more than 400 books on behalf of the National Charity League (NCL), Foothill Chapter in recognition of the school’s dedication to fostering literacy among students. The NCL Foothill Chapter, with roots in the Inland Empire and San Gabriel Valley, chose Almond Elementary School for the donation to boost its Little Library initiative.

Fontana Unified Middle School to Grant Wishes with Annual Gift Drive

Renaissance Club members at Fontana Unified’s Sequoia Middle School will shower their peers with kindness and gifts during an annual Make-a-Wish Day at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 11 at the school, 9452 Hemlock Ave., Fontana. Each year, students in need submit wish lists and Renaissance students reach out to local businesses and community members for donations to help grant these wishes. Fontana Unified School District Appoints Three New Administrators

Follow-up Story: Fontana Unified School District appointed three new directors at the Nov. 15 Board of Education meeting: Linda Young, who was named director of certificated human resources after serving as interim director; Adele Thomas, who will serve as director of professional development and teacher support; and Paul Pagano, the District’s new director of the multi-tiered system of supports department.

Fontana Unified to Host Free Online Safety Workshops for Parents

Fontana Unified School District will hold free Parent University workshops from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, highlighting social media safety tips and youth drug trends. The workshops will be at the John D. Piazza Educational Center, 9680 Citrus Ave., Fontana. Childcare for children ages 3 to 11 will be available, as well as translation services. Fontana Unified’s International Academy to Celebrate Día de Los Muertos

The Dolores Huerta International Academy will host a Día de Los Muertos festival from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9. Students will display handmade altars honoring loved ones while staff, parents and community members enjoy crafts, face painting, music and pan dulce. Dolores Huerta International Academy is at 17777 Merrill Ave., Fontana.

Fontana Adult School Celebrates 60th Anniversary

Follow-up Story: Fontana Unified students, staff and community members gathered at the Fontana Adult School on Nov. 1 to celebrate the school’s 60th anniversary and share stories of its impact on their lives. Fontana Adult School, which opened in 1957, offers medical certificate programs, medicine-focused high school diploma classes and technology courses.

Fontana Unified Student-Police Leadership Program Earns Youth Service Award

Follow-up Story: Fontana Unified’s Junior Fontana Leadership Intervention Program (Jr. FLIP) is being recognized by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission (JJDPC) of San Bernardino County for fostering positive behavior and increasing student engagement in and out of classrooms. The early intervention program, offered through a partnership between Fontana Unified and Fontana School Police, received the Nonprofit Agency Award during the 33rd annual Recognition of Service to Youth Awards on Oct. 11.
