  • Fontana Unified String Orchestra to Play Carnegie Hall in 2026 After Earning National Festival Invite

    Seventy-five Summit High School students are headed to New York for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase their musical talents on the iconic Carnegie Hall stage, after the school’s Fortepiano String Orchestra earned an invitation to perform at the prestigious National Band and Orchestra Festival in April 2026. Summit High is one of nine high schools or colleges nationwide selected to perform at the festival. The invitation-only event is coordinated by WorldStrides, an educational travel and experience provider that offers immersive learning opportunities. This will mark Summit High’s second appearance at the event after first qualifying in 2019.

  • Fontana Unified Elementary School Reveals Campus Makeover, Powered by Jostens Epic School Revamp Win

    Led by Chaparral Academy of Technology (CHAT) Principal Tim McCaffrey and buoyed by chants of “Show Us CHAT,” the school officially revealed its Epic Campus makeover, which has transformed the elementary school’s culture and climate, on May 13. Standing atop the school’s rooftop, Fontana Unified School District (FUSD) maintenance workers dramatically pulled away plastic tarps to unveil a series of newly-rebranded teal and purple Roadrunner mascots casting watchful eyes over the school and surrounding neighborhood, while faculty, staff, scholars, and parents cheered. Earlier this school year, Jostens Renaissance named Chaparral Academy the grand-prize winner of its second annual Epic School Revamp Contest. The win came with a $150,000 prize package that included a full campus rebrand.

  • Fontana Unified to Honor Nearly 3,000 Graduates During Class of 2025 Commencement Ceremonies

    Fontana Unified’s Class of 2025 will embark on a range of post-graduation paths, including continuing their education at top universities such as UCLA, Barnard College, Boston University, UC Berkeley, and UC San Diego; joining the armed forces; or launching directly into the workforce. Many graduates are equipped to pursue high-wage, high-demand careers through Fontana Unified’s 39 career technical education pathways.

Fontana Unified Academy Receives Helpful Honda Gift

Fontana Unified’s Dolores Huerta International Academy received a “Random Act of Helpfulness” from Southern California Honda Dealers Association on Oct. 12. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the dual-language immersion elementary school was gifted new books – in English and Spanish – for its library.

Fontana Unified to Hold College Application Kickoff Events

Fontana Unified will hold a series of college application days at its five comprehensive high schools, furthering efforts to promote college and career readiness. Students will receive support as they complete college applications during the school day. The college application days will be held Thursday, Nov. 1 at A.B. Miller High; Wednesday, Nov. 7 at Fontana High; Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Summit High; Thursday, Nov. 15 at Kaiser High; and Friday, Nov. 16 at Jurupa Hills High.

Fontana Unified Students Celebrate National Walk to School Day

Palmetto Elementary students, parents and staff celebrated healthy living – as well as school spirit – as they participated in National Walk to School Day on Oct. 10. Dressed in tiger ears and school colors, families walked to school to promote exercise and practices for a cleaner environment. Photos are available.

Fontana Unified Elementary to Hold College and Career Day

Almond Elementary will hold College and Career Day from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 to inspire students to consider future opportunities. Twenty-five guest speakers will travel from class to class, offering information on professional pathways and higher education. Parents will also receive college information, both for themselves and for their children. Almond Elementary is at 8172 Almond Ave., Fontana.

Fontana Unified Collects Donations for Military Care Packages

Fontana Unified is partnering with Burrtec, Inc. and Veterans Partnering with Communities, Inc. to gather donations and create care packages for active duty military members. Fontana Unified teachers, students and staff will be collecting and donating food, toiletries, entertainment items and clothing and writing letters to the military through Friday, Sept. 28. Donation drop-off sites are located throughout Fontana Unified.

Fontana Unified Teacher Recognized by Azusa Pacific University, Hot 103.9

Palmetto Elementary School kindergarten teacher Jeanette Campbell was recognized on Sept. 20 by Azusa Pacific University’s Inland Empire Regional Campus and Jeff Pope of Hot 103.9 under their “Teachers are Heroes” program, which honors a local teacher each month. Campbell, who was nominated by a Palmetto Elementary parent, was surprised with a pizza party for her class.

Fontana Unified Elementary Celebrates Patriot Day with Memorial Service

Shadow Hills Elementary School held a Patriot Day ceremony on Sept. 11 to recognize Fontana’s military and first responders and honor those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. Students and staff gave certificates of recognition to family members and community members who are in the military or working as first responders in Fontana. The ceremony also featured a performance from Kaiser High Schools JROTC students. Photos are available.

Fontana Unified, Rialto Unified to Offer Workshop on Black Colleges

Fontana Unified School District is partnering with Rialto Unified School District and U-CAN College Fair to offer a parent workshop on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at Wilmer Carter High School, 2630 N. Linden Ave., Rialto. The workshop will educate parents on the history and the benefits of attending a HBCU, admission requirements and financial aid information.
