  • El Monte Union Celebrates Successes of 2024 QuestBridge Scholars

    Five El Monte Union High School District seniors have been selected as recipients of the prestigious QuestBridge National Match Scholarship, earning admission and a full four-year scholarship worth more than $200,000 to the nation's most selective colleges. The QuestBridge scholars are South El Month High School seniors Mariana Ortega Ubeda and Karla Ixchop; Rosemead High School senior Wesley (Junaho) Huang; Arroyo High School senior Chris Tu; and Mountain View High School senior Jason Flores. QuestBridge’s rigorous selection process honored finalists who have demonstrated qualities necessary for success in college and beyond, including excellence and diligence in their studies, and active engagement in their school communities.

  • El Monte Union Advocates for Students at 2024 Coast2Coast Advocacy Trip

    El Monte Union showcased its unwavering commitment to student advocacy through active participation in the 2024 Coast2Coast Federal Advocacy Trip to Washington, D.C., held April 8 to 10. Trustees and superintendents joined forces with approximately 260 other dedicated members to champion the needs of California students on Capitol Hill. During the trip, representatives from El Monte Union engaged in crucial discussions with notable figures such as Senators Laphonza Butler and Alex Padilla, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, Representatives Zoe Lofgren and Pete Aguilar, and many more. The focus was on addressing pressing issues such as increasing special education funding, enhancing teacher recruitment and retention efforts, reauthorizing the Secure Rural Schools Act, expanding broadband access, and safeguarding student data with cybersecurity resources.

    El Monte High School Visual and Performing Arts students proudly unveiled a transformative mural project, bridging the realms of art and music in an innovative display of creativity and collaboration. The mural project, which incorporates both music and art, began as a modest endeavor, then blossomed into an epic installation over two years, standing as a testament to the dedication and ingenuity of El Monte High’s artistic community. Rosemead High School to Host Track and Field Renovation Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

In October 2021 the District’s Board of Trustees approved a new round of funding, from the Measure D & HS Bonds, as part of a Districtwide modernization project to support a number of facilities improvements on every EMUHSD campus. Local dignitaries, school officials, students and community members will celebrate the completion of this project with marching band and spirit squad performances, honorary speeches, tours of the renovations and refreshments.

El Monte Union High School District Honors First Clean Energy Fellow

The El Monte Union Board of Trustees honored El Monte High School alum Wendy Sanchez with a certificate of recognition for her contributions as the District’s first Clean Energy Fellow under the Clean Mobility in Schools Pilot Project. The fellowship is part of El Monte Union’s educational commitment to the community. Sanchez was recognized by the Board during an April 6 meeting, during which she highlighted her hands-on experience in the program, including working with project partners to assist with the deployment of the District’s clean energy fleet. El Monte Union High School District Encourages Plant-Based Alternatives for Students

El Monte Union High School District received a $5,000 grant from the City of Hope, helping to fund the District’s Burger Swap Project, held Feb. 28 to March 11. Partnering with Impossible Burger, school cafeterias from Rosemead, South El Monte and Mountain View high schools offered the plant-based burger as a lunchtime option, opening the minds and taste buds of students with a goal of promoting healthier living habits and sustainable living.

El Monte High School Senior Receives Scholarship to Attend Cornell University

El Monte High School senior Chau Trinh will pursue her dreams of becoming an architect and supporting the El Monte community through the construction of safe and affordable housing after receiving an $80,000 scholarship to attend Cornell University. Trinh, a campus leader with a 4.1 GPA, will major in architecture, with a goal of providing all families access to comfortable living accommodations. Trinh has established herself as an El Monte High campus leader, serving as varsity tennis captain and debate club president, while furthering her love of learning and community outreach through an internship with El Monte Promise.

El Monte Union High School Teachers, Students Receive $10,000 Donation

Mountain View High School received a donation of $10,000 from RHP Properties through a partnership with the national non-profit organization, AdoptAClassroom.org. The donation will provide students with tools and materials to help them learn and succeed in school. The funds will be divided equally among Mountain View High teachers, who can register and order the supplies they need through AdoptAClassroom.org.

El Monte Union Celebrates Quad Renovation with Groundbreaking Ceremony

South El Monte High School held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new quad renovation project on March 16, with the El Monte Union High School District community celebrating the first shovels of dirt and launch of construction for a wide range of improvements – including a concrete stage, seat walls and walkways, trees and landscaping, audio connections, and outdoor furnishings. The El Monte Union Board of Trustees has approved a new round of funding to support facilities upgrades at every EMUHSD campus.

El Monte Union High School District to Host Groundbreaking for Quad Renovation

South El Monte High School will host a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the launch of construction of its quad renovation project. The quad renovation will include the new addition of a concrete stage, seat walls, walkways, landscaping, electric and audio connections and outdoor furnishing. The event will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16 at South El Monte High School, located at 1001 Durfee Ave., South El Monte.

El Monte Union High School to Offer Advanced Placement Capstone Diploma Program

Rosemead High School will expand its college and career opportunities through the launch of the Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone Diploma program, which encourages students to develop skills for college and career readiness including critical thinking, research, collaboration and communication. Rosemead High School is among approximately 2,000 schools worldwide to implement the program, which consists of two year-long courses – AP Seminar and AP Research – taken in sequence. Rosemead High School will launch the program with its first cohort in the 2022-23 school year.

EMUHSD Releases School Mobility & Active Transportation Plans for Clean Mobility Project

El Monte Union High School District has prepared School Mobility & Active Transportation Plans as part of their participation in the Clean Mobility in Schools Pilot Project. Funding for the plans was made possible by the statewide initiative, California Climate Investments. The plans were developed to help identify school-related mobility needs and solutions that will encourage active transportation for students within the El Monte Union High School District and studied seven schools serving El Monte area students including: Arroyo, El Monte, Fernando R. Ledesma, Mountain View, Rosemead, and South El Monte High Schools and the Granada Transition Center.

El Monte Union Teacher Prep Academy Returns for Spring Semester

Mountain View High School’s Teacher Preparation Academy has returned for the spring semester, with MVHS juniors and seniors tutoring and providing one-on-one instruction to transitional kindergarten through sixth-grade students in the neighboring Mountain View School District, while focusing on the development of their teaching skills. Teacher Preparation Academy co-directors Amy Minick and Mary Boutté lead the Golden Bell Award-winning program that provides aspiring educators a pathway toward pursuing a teaching career.
