  • El Monte Union Celebrates More Than 1,850 Graduates with Fireworks, Tributes, and Pride

    More than 1,850 graduates took center stage in celebrations that featured vibrant tributes, powerful performances, stirring speeches, and fireworks as the El Monte Union High School District (EMUHSD) honored its Class of 2025 with a series of commencements on May 28 and June 5. Graduates from across the District are bound for leading universities, including Yale, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Princeton, Stanford, USC, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, and UCLA. Others plan to attend community college, enroll in trade programs, join the armed forces, or begin their careers. The EMUHSD Class of 2025 also earned prestigious honors for their excellence in academics, athletics, arts, and leadership, including the State Seal of Biliteracy, California Scholarship Federation Gold Seal, QuestBridge National College Match, and Edison scholarships. El Monte Union also bid farewell to South El Monte High School’s Andrea Pablo as she concluded her term as Student Board Member, where she served as a strong representative and champion for her peers.

    With the roar of student-athletes and the rhythm of the marching band, cheer, and color guard, El Monte High School (EMHS) marked the grand opening of its brand-new, state-of-the-art athletics facility with a spirited ribbon-cutting celebration on June 2. The long-awaited facility, now complete with a synthetic track and field, modern scoreboard, and upgraded amenities, stands as a symbol of El Monte Union High School District’s (EMUHSD) commitment to athletic excellence, student wellness, and community engagement. Funded by voter-approved Measure D and Measure HS bonds, the project is part of the District’s larger $190 million modernization initiative.

  • El Monte Union Set to Honor the Class of 2025 with Lively Graduation Ceremonies

    El Monte Union High School District (EMUHSD) will host commencement ceremonies to honor more than 1,850 graduating students from the District’s five comprehensive high schools, alternative high school, adult school, and transition center. EMUHSD’s Class of 2025 graduates have earned acceptance to top colleges, universities, and military programs, including Yale, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Princeton, Stanford, UCLA, and the United States Navy. Students have also garnered a wide range of academic, athletic, and artistic honors, including prestigious scholarships such as QuestBridge and Edison, the California State Seal of Biliteracy, state recognitions, league championships, and historic achievements in the visual and performing arts. The District is also bidding farewell to its graduating Student Board Member, South El Monte High School senior Andrea Pablo.

El Monte Union’s Earth Day Celebration Sparks Inspiration Among Students and Community Members

El Monte Union High School District students and community members explored the latest in clean air initiatives and cutting-edge clean energy transportation options during the District's Clean Mobility Info Fair, held in partnership with the California Air Resources Board (CARB), on April 20, 2023. During the event, attendees were treated to information booths on environmental sustainability and tours of the District's new electric school buses and ride-share vehicles. Longo Toyota-Lexus also wowed the crowd with a display of electric and hydrogen-powered cars.

El Monte Union to Celebrate Earth Day with Clean Mobility in Schools Info Fair

El Monte Union High School District will host a Clean Mobility Info Fair to celebrate Earth Day at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 20 at El Monte High School. The event, which will be held in partnership with the California Air Resources Board (CARB), will allow school community members to learn about clean energy transportation, meet the District’s project partners, engage with high school green club members, view all-electric vehicles, visit exhibit booths and participate in several photo opportunities. Parking will be limited during the event and attendees are encouraged to use clean transportation by carpooling, walking, cycling or taking the bus. El Monte High School is served by Metro Local 287 and the City of El Monte Orange Route. El Monte High School is located at 3048 Tyler Ave., El Monte.

El Monte Union Celebrates Mountain View High Upgrades

Mountain View High School (MVHS) students, families, staff, dignitaries and community members celebrated the newest upgrades to the school’s Cafetorium with a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on March 29. The renovation includes the addition of theater-quality retractable seating, a proscenium wall for performances, and lighting and sound systems. The Cafetorium will provide students with a versatile and flexible space that includes ample seating and an open stage for performances, rallies, ceremonies and more.

El Monte Union Senior Receives VFW Scholarship for Essay Honoring Veterans

Arroyo High School senior Aurora Che has received more than $1,000 in scholarship money from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), which acknowledged Che for her moving essay that was submitted to the Voice of Democracy audio-essay contest. Che’s essay earned her a trip to Sacramento in January, after she was named the VFW Post 10218 El Monte and VFW District 11 first-place winner. Che, whose family includes veterans of conflicts in Vietnam and Afghanistan, was honored by Post 10218 on March 23 in a special awards ceremony.

El Monte Union High School District Breaks Ground on South El Monte High School Modernization Project

El Monte Union students, families and community members gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of construction for South El Monte High School’s modernization project on April 4, which will feature renovations to the entire campus including redesigned landscaping and outdoor seating, upgraded classrooms, library and administration building and state-of-the-art technology. The modernization project will include spaces that promote college and career readiness for all students, prioritizing flexibility to ensure work and learning spaces can be tailored to maximize the capabilities of both teachers and students.

El Monte Union’s Annual Choral Festival Showcases District Singers

Arroyo High School hosted its 19th Annual Invitational Choral Festival on March 28, where 23 choirs from El Monte, including all El Monte City School District choirs, performed individual songs, concluding the festival with a joint performance featuring all the student performers. The festival also showcased choirs from Arroyo High School, including A Capella Choir, Chamber Singers, Treble Choir and Glee Chorus led by choral director Jennifer Stanley.

El Monte Union to Host Ribbon-Cutting for Mountain View High School’s Cafetorium

The El Monte Union High School District will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the newest upgrades to Mountain View High’s Cafetorium, to be held at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29. The project features retractable auditorium seating, an open stage for performances, and more. The event will include a welcome reception with speeches and food prepared by Mountain View Culinary Arts program. Following the reception, there will be student performances within the cafetorium to give the school community a look into the new facility. Mountain View High is located at 2900 Parkway Dr., El Monte.

El Monte Union Celebrates Pi Day, Holds Inaugural Districtwide Math Bee

El Monte Union students celebrated the academic fun of Pi Day on March 14, going head-to-head in answering a series of math equations during the inaugural Districtwide Math Bee at Mountain View High School. Each El Monte Union campus nominated its top two math students from each grade level to compete. Winning students received gift cards, a customized District Math pin and a certificate of recognition. The school that accumulated the most points was named the overall champion. The event gave families, faculty, administration and the school community an opportunity to engage in math discourse, culture and competition.

El Monte Union School Recognized as 2023 Model Continuation High School

Fernando R. Ledesma High School is one of 37 schools in the state to be recognized as a 2023 Model Continuation High School, a designation awarded by the California Department of Education to schools that provide exemplary programs to at-risk youth through innovative instructional strategies, flexible scheduling, and guidance and counseling services. Fernando R. Ledesma High has successfully provided education to students through modern and innovative practices. The school will retain its Model Continuation High School designation for three years.

El Monte Union Senior Receives Posse Scholarship to Northwestern University

Rosemead High School senior Wendy Sar has a knack for numbers and the mindset of an explorer. As a member of the Riordan Scholars Program at UCLA, Sar served as team leader in a stock market analysis competition, guiding her team to first place. The rigorous weekend classes did more than provide Sar with a challenge; they helped propel her to an elite university. Sar will attend Northwestern University after being named a 2023 Posse Foundation scholar, one of just 10 Posse Los Angeles Chapter members to receive a full-ride scholarship to Northwestern. Sar plans to major in economics and pursue a managerial analytics certificate. This is the fourth year in a row a Rosemead High student has been named a Posse scholar.
