EL MONTE – Ninety-six deserving seniors from El Monte Union High School District were awarded scholarships by the EKG Foundation, in partnership with C.B.M. Towing Inc., for their academic achievement and community involvement at a senior scholarship banquet on May 11.

The EKG Foundation, a non-profit organization created in honor of the late Arroyo High School alumnus Edward-Kenneth F. Guerrero, collaborated with C.B.M. Towing Inc., a local towing and recovery company committed to giving back to the community, to recognize and reward the achievements of El Monte Union seniors.

“We began this foundation on behalf of my grandson to ensure his legacy and immeasurable love for his community are kept alive,” EKG Foundation member Susie Guerrero said. “We could not be more grateful to our team and sponsors for helping us change the lives of many students. We look forward to continuing our work and offering more scholarships in the future.”

The EKG Foundation invited all graduating seniors who attend one of the six El Monte Union campuses to apply for the scholarship. This year’s group of scholarship recipients – which is the largest honored by the foundation to date – was selected based on academic success, leadership in school activities, commitment to community, character, determination and financial need. Each student received a $400 award to help alleviate the financial burden of pursuing higher education.

Through these scholarships, the foundation aims to inspire and motivate students to strive for academic excellence while making a positive impact on their communities.

“We are very proud of our students who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to their education and community. We would also like to thank and commend the EKG Foundation and C.B.M. Towing Inc. for supporting them in reaching their post-secondary goals,” Superintendent Dr. Edward Zuniga said. “These scholarships will provide these deserving seniors with financial support to pursue their academic aspirations and continue making positive contributions to society.”
