Baldwin Park Unified School District administrators and school leaders gathered for the District’s annual Leadership Charge, with this year’s theme centering on “Gearing Up for Success.” Superintendent Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza welcomed more than 150 employees, including principals, program administrators, directors and supervisors. The first professional development day on July 18, featured a team building exercise that challenged attendees with building bicycles that will be donated to students in Early Childhood Education through middle school.
Baldwin Park High School incoming junior Kohle Jackson will represent Los Angeles County and join more than 450 seniors and juniors from 14 countries to harness and expand leadership skills during the Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership’s 2019 World Leadership Congress (WLC).
Baldwin Park Unified Junior Selected for World Leadership Conference
Baldwin Park High School incoming junior Kohle Jackson was selected out of 170 Los Angeles-area high school students to represent the county in Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership’s 2019 World Leadership Congress (WLC) from Saturday, July 20 through Saturday, July 27 at Loyola University in Chicago. More than 450 students from 14 countries will participate in WLC, a weeklong program that empowers high schoolers to become leaders and global citizens. HOBY Los Angeles provided Jackson with a $1,000 scholarship to put toward the $1,825 registration fee.
Following a 38-year career as an educator and principal in Baldwin Park Unified School District, Kenmore Elementary Principal Jane Sattari retired at the end of June. Sattari, who became principal at Kenmore in 2010, led the school to notable milestones and earned titles that include: Best Urban School, California Honor Roll, California Distinguished School and Top Los Angeles School Award.
Baldwin Park Unified Approves LCAP for 2019-20
Baldwin Park Unified’s Board of Education on June 25 adopted the final year of the District’s 2017-20 Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). The LCAP serves as a blueprint for the upcoming school year, with the District focusing on preparing students for 21st century careers, fostering a safe and supportive environment, and promoting a culture of collaboration with local partners and stakeholders. The 2019-20 plan adds parent budget pages that will also be posted to the District’s website.
Baldwin Park Unified’s Kenmore Elementary School’s success in preparing students to perform at grade level and creating lifelong learners has earned the school a spot on the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE) 2018-19 Honor Roll.
Kenmore Elementary was named a Star School, a category for high-performing schools with significant populations of socioeconomically disadvantaged students. The Honor Roll is based on overall performance on state standardized tests.
Baldwin Park Unified Elementary Named to California Honor Roll
Baldwin Park Unified’s Kenmore Elementary School’s success in preparing students to perform at grade level and creating lifelong learners has earned the school a spot on the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE) 2018-19 Honor Roll. Kenmore Elementary was selected based on overall performance on state standardized tests, with 64 percent of ethnic minority students and 63 percent of socioeconomically disadvantaged students meeting or exceeding English language arts (ELA) standards.
Baldwin Park Unified Offers Summer Breakfasts, Lunches
Baldwin Park children ages 1 through 18 can receive free breakfasts and lunches Mondays through Fridays at nine Baldwin Park Unified schools through the Seamless Summer Meal Program. Five elementary schools, a middle school and a junior high school are serving breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. and lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m. through Friday, July 5. Baldwin Park and Sierra Vista high schools are serving breakfast and lunch through Thursday, July 11. For more information, call the Nutrition Services Department at 626-856-4224.

Baldwin Park High School incoming freshman Silence Jackson stunned judges and fellow competitors with her documentary “Rebuild this Wall: The Truths of a Triumph Turned Tragic on Black Wall Street,” earning her the Outstanding in State Award for the junior documentary division at the National History Day competition, held in Maryland.
