El Monte City School District to Host ‘Aladdin Jr.’ Performances
El Monte City School District’s Columbia School will host two student-led performances of “Aladdin Jr.”
for parents and family members. The first performance, which will feature kindergarten, first- and
second-graders, will start at 9 a.m. Monday, July 1. The second performance will feature third- through
seventh-graders and will start at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 2. Columbia School is at 3400 N. California Ave., El
Monte.
Inglewood Unified to Hold District Job Fair
Inglewood Unified School District will hold a job fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 27 to present new employment opportunities. The fair, which will include interviews for candidates, will be held at the District office, 401 S. Inglewood Ave., Inglewood.
Wildcat Stadium roared as administrators, teachers, and family and friends celebrated 367 Class of 2019 graduates who said goodbye to Monrovia High School during an evening commencement ceremony on June 5.
Rio Hondo College’s Board of Trustees on June 12 unanimously selected Mendocino-Lake Community College District Superintendent/President Dr. Arturo Reyes to assume leadership of the College, pending approval of a contract in July. Reyes, who has led Mendocino College since 2013, will succeed Superintendent/President Teresa Dreyfuss, who retires June 30.
Monrovia Unified celebrated 270 students who graduated from the District’s Adult School, Canyon Oaks High School, and Mountain Park School during ceremonies that celebrated the achievements and successes of each student. During the ceremonies, scholarships were distributed to students by community groups such as Monrovia Rotary Club, Monrovia Kiwanis Club, Monrovia Latino Heritage Society, and Citrus College Bright Future. The scholarships totaled more than $15,000, a jump from the $8,000 distributed last year.
Baldwin Park Unified School District’s Class of 2019 received thousands of dollars in local and national scholarships, including a Gates Scholarship. During the District’s annual Joint Scholarship Ceremony, 10 exceptional seniors received a collective $10,000 in scholarships. The top honor went to Sierra Vista High School valedictorian Abrahan Vasquez, who was named a 2019 Gates Scholar and received a $5,000 award from the Ramona Burnham Scholarship Foundation.
Nearly 1,000 Paramount High School seniors turned their tassels and received diplomas during a commencement ceremony on June 13 that marked the end of one journey and the beginning of another for graduates.
Baldwin Park Unified School District celebrated 958 graduates in the Class of 2019 during commencement ceremonies at Baldwin Park, North Park Continuation and Sierra Vista high schools on June 5 and June 6. Fifty-nine seniors from Baldwin Park and Sierra Vista graduated with valedictory honors, holding GPAs of 4.0 or higher. Thirty-five seniors graduated with highest honors (GPAs of 3.8 to 3.99) and 76 graduated with honors(GPAs of 3.5 to 3.79).
Durfee School’s 169 eighth-graders were treated to a triumphant promotion ceremony, with more than 500 parents and family members sporting noise makers, air horns and posters with inspirational messages to celebrate their children’s academic achievements.
Frontier High School history teacher Mary Ann Fajardo is one of six Los Angeles-area educators selected to travel to Germany in June as part of a 10-day program that will provide first-hand accounts of the Holocaust from survivors, eyewitnesses and scholars.
