Whittier Union Math Teacher Recognized as 2019-20 Teacher of the Year

Pioneer High School math teacher Carolina DeHart has been selected Whittier Union's 2019-20 Teacher of the Year. DeHart has spent nearly 30 years making a positive impact on Pioneer students as a teacher and tutor, instilling high expectations while pushing students to attend college and pursue their dream careers. She was hired as a calculus teacher at Pioneer in 1989. Over the years, she has taught every math class at Pioneer, from algebra and geometry to trigonometry and math analysis. In addition, she tutors three afternoons a week as part of Pioneer’s Prep Program.

Monrovia Unified Improves Facilities with Summer Projects

Monrovia Unified School District focused on its vision of offering world-class schools for world-class students this summer by upgrading the air-conditioning systems at Plymouth Elementary and Clifton Middle School and renovating the track and field at Monrovia High School. Field improvements include new turf installation, upgrades to the rubber pellet infill to a cool-fill product and relocated communication boxes to outer parts of the field.

El Monte Union Summer Bridge Program Eases High School Transition

More than 270 freshmen who are set to launch their high school careers in El Monte Union this fall recently completed the District’s Summer Bridge program, during which they took field trips to local colleges, universities and museums, met high school faculty and staff, and learned about the requirements for high school graduation and how to prepare for college. The Summer Bridge program provides incoming freshmen with instructional support and guidance to ensure a successful transition from middle to high school, focusing on time management, organization and study skills.

Baldwin Park Unified School District Holds Annual Leadership Charge

Baldwin Park Unified School District administrators and school leaders joined together for the District’s annual Leadership Charge, with this year’s theme centered on “Gearing Up for Success.” Superintendent Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza welcomed more than 150 employees, including principals, program administrators, directors and supervisors. The first professional development day, on July 18, featured a team building exercise that challenged attendees to build bicycles that will be donated to students in Early Childhood Education through middle school.
