  • Bonita Unified ProStart Culinary Students Display Skills at ‘The Grateful Table’ Fundraiser

    Bonita Unified ProStart culinary students rubbed elbows with some of the top executive chefs and restauranteurs in the state as they displayed their award-winning skills at the California Restaurant Foundation’s (CRF) biggest fundraiser of the year, The Grateful Table, which raised nearly $300,000 to support California Cares, a relief fund for California restaurant workers. Held in September at the Del Mar Racetrack, The Grateful Table saw ProStart students from San Dimas and Bonita high schools work side by side with many renowned California chefs, including guest of honor Guy Fieri, to prepare a gourmet meal while BUSD ProStart alumni worked the front of the house, providing an exquisite experience for the event’s VIP guests and donors. San Dimas and Bonita were the only schools chosen to participate in this year’s event.

  • Bonita Unified Board of Education Welcomes 2025-26 Student Representatives

    Bonita High School senior Savannah Morua, Chaparral-Vista High School senior Rachelle Torres, and San Dimas High School senior Jacob Pardus stepped into new leadership roles during the Bonita Unified Board of Education meeting on Oct. 8, cheered on by their peers as they took the oath of office to serve as the Board’s student representatives for the 2025-26 school year. Morua, Torres, and Pardus – who are all part of their campus’ Associated Student Body (ASB) or Renaissance leadership classes – will serve as the voices of their peers on a District level, attending regular Board meetings to provide reports on campus news and share feedback or concerns.

  • Bonita Unified Students Get a Taste of Farm-Fresh Knowledge at Mini Farmers Markets

    Bonita Unified School District is bringing farm-fresh produce and nutrition education directly to students through new Mini Farmers Markets at various BUSD school sites, supported by a $3,000 California Farm to School Incubator grant. In partnership with Old Grove Orange – a local produce supplier that serves all BUSD campuses – Grace Miller Elementary hosted the first event on Sept. 26, where students were presented with locally grown fruits and vegetables, learned about their nutritional benefits, and gained a better understanding of where their food comes from. The next Mini Farmers Market will take place Nov. 12 at Allen Avenue Elementary.

Bonita Unified Celebrates Students Achievement At State Of The District

Bonita Unified School District shared student success stories, celebrated achievements in academics, athletics, arts and activities, and presented awards to students and community partners at the 2020 State of the District luncheon on Feb. 25 at the Hillcrest Meeting House. Superintendent Carl J. Coles shared stories of students who have discovered their purpose at Bonita Unified – like Chaparral Vista High School senior and student board representative Justine Plowman, who is working to become a sheriff’s deputy, and Ekstrand Elementary second-grader Jordan Mulgado, who is looking at colleges that will teach him to design race cars.

Bonita Unified Announces 2020 State of the District Address and Luncheon

Bonita Unified School District will host its 2020 State of the District, sponsored by the La Verne and San Dimas rotary clubs and chambers of commerce. Check-in will be at 11 a.m. with a $25 lunch; attendance after 12:15 p.m. is free. The event will be Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Hillcrest Retirement Community, 2705 Mountain View Drive, La Verne.

Bonita Unified Students Prepare Over 500 Meals for Families

Students, families, teachers and volunteers from Shull Elementary and Ramona Middle School gathered at the Holy Name of Mary church in San Dimas to help bag over 500 lunches for local families. Bags included Lunchables, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chips, crackers and cheese, candy, granola bars, water bottles and fruit cups.

Bonita Unified Students Kick Off New Year In New Shoes

Several Bonita Unified students walked into class with a spring in their step when classes resumed following the holiday break. Thanks to a Bonita Unified partnership with Sempra Energy and Claremont-based nonprofit Shoes that Fit, 75 Bonita Unified School District students received new footwear as the centerpiece of holiday gift baskets assembled by the District.

Bonita Unified Cheer Team Wins CIF Championship

San Dimas High School’s Cheer team won the CIF-SS FORD Division 2A Championship in Competitive Cheer on Jan. 11 at M.L. King High School gymnasium in Riverside. San Dimas earned the highest score out of seven teams in its division with an impressive 84.05. More than 80 teams performed original routines at the competition.

Bonita Unified’s Oak Mesa Named California Distinguished School

Oak Mesa Elementary School has been named a 2020 California Distinguished School by the California Department of Education. The School received this award thanks to superb state test scores and parent outreach initiatives. Oak Mesa will be honored by the state on Monday, February 10 during an awards ceremony at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim.

Bonita Unified Students Receive New Shoes, Toys for Holidays

Seventy-five Bonita Unified School District students received new pairs of brand-name shoes as the centerpiece of a holiday gift basket created by the District in partnership with Sempra Energy and Claremont nonprofit Shoes That Fit. The baskets are filled with toys donated through the District’s annual toy drive, led by Lone Hill Middle School campus supervisor Cyndy Starkey.

Bonita Unified Board of Education Selects New Officers

Bonita Unified’s Board of Education held its annual reorganization meeting Dec. 11, selecting new leaders for the coming year. The board chose Glenn Creiman as president, Matthew Lyons as vice president and Chuck Coyne as clerk. Derek Bahmanou and Diane Koach round out the board.

Bonita Unified Recognized as 2019 Top Workplace by Inland News Group

Bonita Unified School District is being recognized by the Inland News Group as one of 2019’s Top 35 Workplaces in the Inland Empire. Over 1,200 survey responses from more than 600 employees at all 13 Bonita Unified schools reflected a positive culture at Bonita, with faculty and staff relishing the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students and help them realize their potential, the camaraderie of co-workers and being rewarded for good work. The Bonita Unified Teachers Association and the California School Employees Association Bonita Chapter said that they were proud to see Bonita recognized and that they are appreciative of everyone who made the recognition possible.

Bonita Unified, Community to Dedicate District Offices

Students, parents, staff and community members from Bonita Unified will hold a reception at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6 to dedicate the recently completed District Office, 115 W. Allen Ave., San Dimas. Superintendent Carl J. Coles will present the District’s mission, vision and core values. The District Office building represents the final project completed with funds from bond measures C and AB.
