Baldwin Park Unified Elementary to Participate in Walk to School Day

Baldwin Park Unified’s Central Elementary School will participate in National Walk to School Day at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2. Students, parents, teachers and staff will meet at Central Park, 15010 Badillo St., Baldwin Park, and will walk together to Central Elementary, 14741 Central Ave., Baldwin Park. The event promotes physical activity and community engagement and teaches students the importance of pedestrian safety.

El Monte Union Strengthens Commitment to Healthy Living with Opening of Eco-Garden

Arroyo High School officially opened its Regenerative Learning Garden – a 1-acre site that will double as a community garden and learning laboratory for students studying horticulture and water conservation – during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 21. Developed through a partnership with Eco-Urban Gardens and the U.S. Green Building Council Los Angeles (USGBC-LA), the student-run garden underscores El Monte Union’s commitment to supporting ecological solutions and sustainable living in the greater El Monte community.

Baldwin Park Unified to Hold 13th Annual College and Career Fair

Baldwin Park Unified School District is gearing up for its 13th annual College and Career Fair, featuring workshops on college applications, financial aid and scholarships, and representatives from universities, trade schools and local businesses. The College and Career Fair is the culminating event for a week of activities and assemblies held throughout the District to emphasize college and career awareness.

Whittier Union Recognized for Beating the Odds in Stanford Study

Whittier Union has been identified as one of 167 California school districts to excel at supporting the learning of all students, particularly Hispanics, at higher-than-expected levels on the state’s new, more rigorous math and reading assessments in a “Positive Outliers: Districts Beating the Odds” study. Whittier Union ranked at 65 in the study, which was released earlier this year by the Learning Policy Institute out of Stanford University. The Institute is headed by Linda Darling-Hammond, president of the California Board of Education. Whittier Union’s earned reputation for attaining and sustaining substantial academic progress has been over two decades the making.

El Monte Union Kicks Off College Application Season

El Monte High School welcomed hundreds of students and their parents for the District’s annual College Night on Sept. 23. Students met with representatives from over 40 colleges and universities and participated in activities in preparation for college and financial aid application season. Students received information on programs, activities, entrance requirements and degrees offered by two- and four-year universities, including UC Berkeley, UCLA, Cal State Los Angeles, Cal Poly Pomona, University of La Verne and Rio Hondo College.

Monrovia Unified Students to Take Part in National Walk to School Day

Students from two Monrovia Unified elementary schools will join campuses across the country to celebrate National Walk to School Day at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2. Events will take place at Mayflower Elementary School, 210 N. Mayflower Ave., Monrovia, and Monroe Elementary School, 402 W. Colorado Blvd., Monrovia. Students will walk and bike to school with parents and teachers.

Whittier Union Students Explore College Options at Annual Fair

The Whittier High School quad was filled with hundreds of students and their families eager to explore their post-secondary options and forge a path to their future during the 2022 Whittier Union College Fair, held Sept. 21. Long lines formed as students spoke with representatives from more than 50 colleges from across the country and participated in workshops geared toward navigating the college application process. Information on social services were provided by local vendors. The College Fair was presented in-person for the first time since the 2019-20 school year.    

El Monte City School District Students Learn about Careers, Education from Panda Express Execs

Shirpser School students unleashed a barrage of questions during the inaugural Panda Cares Reading event on Sept. 18, asking Panda Express associates where they went to college, what they do and how many people they direct. Thirty-two Panda Express associates, ranging from graphic designers to accountants and construction managers, spoke with students about career options attainable with a college education.
