BALDWIN PARK – Baldwin Park Unified School District is gearing up for its 13th annual College and Career Fair, featuring workshops on college applications, financial aid and scholarships, and representatives from universities, trade schools and local businesses.

The College and Career Fair is the culminating event for a week of activities and assemblies held throughout the District to emphasize college and career awareness.

An opening ceremony will kick off the Fair at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at Sierra Vista High School, located at 3600 Frazier St., Baldwin Park. Workshops in English and Spanish will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the event will conclude at 1:30 p.m.

Shuttle buses will be available from 8:30 a.m. until the conclusion of the event from Baldwin Park High School, North Park Continuation High School, Holland Middle School and Jones Junior High School. Babysitting also will be available.

“The College and Career Fair gives our students and families the opportunity to ask questions and learn important information that will inform their futures,” Superintendent Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza said. “I want to thank Sierra Vista High School administrators and educators, as well as student leaders in ASB and Link Crew for working so hard to host what is going to be an exceptional event.”

The event will highlight a variety of college and career pathways, including dual-enrollment opportunities through Mt. San Antonio College and the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program that begins in middle school and carries through to high school.

Students can attend workshops geared toward improving SAT scores and writing the perfect college essay. Parent sessions will include information on graduation requirements and how to avoid college debt.

Local and out of state universities will be in attendance, including Biola, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State LA, UC Santa Barbara, Grand Canyon University and Harvard. Students will be able to find out about study abroad opportunities and living on campus.

Recruiters from Rio Hondo College Fire Academy, California Conservation Core, Los Angeles County Fire Department and the armed forces will be available to discuss internships, volunteering and careers.

Baldwin Park’s Adult and Community Education Program will showcase an array of career opportunities for students that range from culinary arts to barbering and from cosmetology to automotive technology.

District and school leaders will be available to answer questions and provide resources to families.
