  • O’Day Short Family Story to Reach New Audiences Through Public Media Partnership

    The powerful civil rights story of the O’Day Short family, whose legacy led Fontana Unified School District to rename Randall Pepper Elementary School in their honor in August 2025, will reach new audiences through a five-year public media partnership with PBS, NPR, and FNX. The short documentary, “O’Day Short: An Act of Justice,” will air on the networks’ programming lines and streaming services beginning this fall, helping preserve the family’s story for generations to come. The film was produced by award-winning producers E’Ian West and George Sharperson, with research contributions from Fontana Unified Executive Director of Marketing and Communications Clarissa Trejo.

  • Fontana Unified Schools Earn Platinum PBIS Honors, Creating Environments Where Students Thrive

    Twelve Fontana Unified School District schools have earned platinum honors from the California Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Coalition for the 2025-26 school year – the most FUSD campuses to receive the top recognition in District history – while 30 schools were recognized overall for fostering positive, supportive campus cultures. This is the third consecutive year that Fontana Unified has had 10 or more schools earn platinum honors. All 30 schools will be celebrated at the 2026 California PBIS Conference, held Oct. 7-9 in Sacramento.

  • Fontana Unified High Schools Ranked Among California’s Top Schools in U.S. News & World Report

    Fontana Unified School District has earned recognition on the 2026-27 U.S. News & World Report High School rankings, with all five of its comprehensive high schools ranking among the top 50% of schools in California and the top one-third of schools nationwide. The rankings also reflect strong graduation outcomes across the District, with each high school reporting a 90% or higher graduation rate above both the California rate of 87.5% and the national rate of 87.4%.

Fontana Unified to Host Free Family Math Workshops for Parents

Fontana Unified School District will hold Parent University workshops from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, providing strategies for math proficiency for the entire family. Fontana Unified’s Summit High Recognized as an AVID Highly Certified Site

Follow-up Story: Summit High School was named a 2017-18 Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Highly Certified Site for encouraging independent thinkers, increasing the college-going rate to four-year universities and providing students with tools for academic and professional success. In 2016-17, 59 of the 60 seniors enrolled in AVID were accepted to four-year universities. AVID works to narrow the achievement gap between the lowest- and highest-performing students and increase the number who pursue higher education.

Fontana Unified’s Sequoia Middle School Named to Schools to Watch List

Follow-up Story: Fontana Unified’s Sequoia Middle School is one of 22 schools in California named to the 2018 California Schools to Watch list for improving student achievement, creating a positive campus culture through student programs and teacher training, and lowering its suspension rate. Sequoia Middle School will accept the award in Sacramento on Saturday, March 3 and hold a campus celebration on Tuesday, March 6.

Fontana Adult School to Host Free ESL and Citizenship Classes
