El Monte High Celebrates Stadium Renovations

El Monte High School held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate renovations to its stadium – including a snack bar, restrooms and bleachers to seat more than 2,000 spectators – on March 20. El Monte High broke ground on the project in 2017. Lion Stadium was renovated to increase seating capacity for spectators to enjoy a broad range of sports, including football, soccer, and track and field, and celebrate student milestones, such as graduation. The site includes new fencing, landscaping, a gate entrance and ticket booth.

Monrovia Unified Hosts Preview Night for Kindergarten Programs

Parents can learn about Monrovia Unified’s elementary school programs and services during Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten (TK/K) Preview Night at 6 p.m. Monday, March 18 at Monrovia Unified School District Office, 325 E. Huntington Drive, Monrovia. Parents will be able to meet with principals and discuss enrollment. Monrovia Unified hosts innovative programs such as Code to the Future, Spanish and Mandarin dual-language immersion and visual and performing arts for each school.

West Covina Unified Early College Academy Students Explore Eco Issues

Nearly 60 freshmen from West Covina Unified’s Mt. SAC Early College Academy dazzled parents and educators with presentations on ecofriendly burials, invasive species, light pollution and fast fashion during the Academy’s first-ever Environmental Issues Fair on March 15. The fair capped the first major interdisciplinary project at the Academy, a dual-enrollment public high school that provides students with up to two years of transferrable college credit as they earn their diplomas. El Monte Union to Unveil Winner of Student Cooking Showdown on May 1

Student chefs from three El Monte Union high schools squared off to prepare a full meal – complete with a protein, vegetable and starch – in Cooking Showdown, the District’s first-ever cooking competition on March 15. Filmed by Mountain View's VISTA Academy video production class, the game show-style competition featured three teams of six students receiving identical surprise ingredients and being given 75 minutes to plan and prep their dishes. The winner will be announced at the Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday, May 1.

Baldwin Park Unified High Schoolers Compete in Public Speaking Contest

Sierra Vista senior Diana Aguilar Cruz and freshmen Maryhelen Ortega argued the meaning of freedom of the press during the annual Lions Club Student Speaker Contest on Feb. 25. Cruz won first place, earning a $100 scholarship and the opportunity to progress to the next regional area contest – to be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 9 at the Salvation Army, 970 E. Walnut St., Pasadena.

El Monte City School District to Host Breakfast, Leadership Showcase

Baldwin Park Unified Promotes National School Breakfast Week

Baldwin Park Unified is celebrating National School Breakfast Week from Monday, March 4 through Friday, March 8 with new breakfast items, including cheese omelets, whole-grain croissants and waffles with fresh strawberries and bananas. More than 25,000 breakfasts are served to students on a weekly basis.

El Monte Union Partners with City of El Monte to INSPIRE Students

El Monte Union recently partnered with the City of El Monte to host two leadership conferences, dubbed INSPIRE, for hundreds of boys and girls who were provided with mentorship, inspiration and encouragement to ensure their success in high school and beyond. Students participated in three empowerment workshops, followed by luncheons with community leaders.
