Oak Mesa Elementary School second-graders learned how government laws and regulations aim to ensure community safety during a week of mini-civics lessons from City of La Verne leaders. La Verne City Councilmember Tim Hepburn, La Verne police Cpl. Mark Gutierrez and La Verne fire Cpt. Kevin Wilton visited Oak Mesa second-grade classrooms to augment curriculum introducing students to basic facets of American government.
Lynwood Unified student-athletes joined Board of Education members and elected officials to celebrate a new District athletic field during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 12 at Lynwood Middle School. The field will host athletic programs from Firebaugh High School and Lynwood Middle School, along with other District functions. The nearly $2.5 million project began in February 2018 and features bleachers, an all-weather track, CIF-competitive field, goal posts and updated fencing.
Fontana Unified School District will send 24 teams to compete in the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) – USA National Championships on Sept. 15, where students will test their collaboration, programming and robotics skills against elementary, middle and high school students from across the country.
In partnership with Soroptimist International of San Dimas/La Verne, Bonita Unified teachers and administrators treated 70 students to a back-to-school shopping spree at the La Verne Target. In addition to receiving backpacks and school supplies, each student received an $80 clothing budget and a shopping assistant from among 50 volunteers from the Bonita Unified school board, police department, fire department and other local organizations. The “Bonita Children’s Shopping Day” has provided the shopping experience to students annually since 1995.
Lynwood Unified will unveil a state-of-the-art athletic field designed to boost performance and safety for student-athletes across the District. The field will host athletic programs from Firebaugh High School and Lynwood Middle School along with other District functions. The layout features new bleachers, a track, field, goal posts and updated fencing. Lynwood Unified Superintendent Gudiel R. Crosthwaite, Board of Education President Gary Hardie and local elected officials will attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the field’s opening. The Firebaugh and LMS bands will perform; guests will tour the grounds.
Fontana Unified School District joined forces with Chaffey Joint Union High School District and Rialto Unified School District to host the inaugural Inland Empire Regional College Fair on Sept. 25, providing nearly 90,000 students the opportunity to meet with college representatives from across the United States. El Monte Union College Night to Feature More than 40 Universities
El Monte Union High School District will host its annual College Night from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23 at El Monte High School, 3048 Tyler Ave., El Monte. The event will provide students and parents the opportunity to explore dozens of colleges and universities and learn more about what steps to take to enter a two- or four-year university. El Monte City School District students learned the importance of courage, responsibility and integrity after attending a series of assemblies connecting those virtues to the District’s social-emotional learning program, Leader in Me.
Whittier Union High School District will host its annual District College Fair at La Serna High School from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, allowing students and parents to meet with dozens of college representatives and get first-hand information about the college systems and financial aid. Students from all of the District’s high schools are invited to participate in the event, taking place at 15301 Youngwood Drive, Whittier.
Inglewood Unified to Host Wellness Meetings for Families
