Buena Park School District to Host Virtual Community Share Event
Corey School is now accepting videos and photos of students showcasing their talents for the school’s second annual Community Share. The event, which is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, will display the visual and performing arts talents of students to the community. The photos and videos will be shared throughout the community through ParentSquare. Submissions can be emailed to Program Specialist Jay Beckelheimer at JBeckelheimer@bpsd.us.
Fontana Unified High School Engages Students in Virtual Open Mic
A.B. Miller High School’s library is challenging students to flex their creativity during a virtual Rebel Open Mic, to be held all day Friday, April 24. Students are encouraged to share their family-friendly talent – whether it be in the form of music, poetry, jokes or dance – by tweeting videos to @ABMRebelLibrary and tagging them #RebelOpenMic.
Fontana Unified to Hold Dual Language Enrollment Lottery on Facebook
Fontana Unified School District will hold lotteries for 2020-21 kindergarten enrollment in its Spanish Dual Language Immersion program – available at Dolores Huerta International Academy (DHIA) and Redwood Elementary – via Facebook Live on Friday, April 24. DHIA will hold its lottery at 3 p.m.; Redwood Elementary will follow at 4 p.m. Parents can tune into the lotteries on the District’s Facebook page or view the videos on the District website in the evening.
Baldwin Park Unified continues to ensure every child has access to healthy, nutritious meals – despite school closures prompted by the COVID-19 virus – through its curbside meal distribution plan. To date, the District has served nearly 131,000 meals since March 16, when the District enacted school closures on the recommendation of county and state officials.
Clifton Middle School has been recognized as a 2020 School to Watch for its academic excellence, responsiveness to the needs of students, and commitment to helping every student achieve at a high level. The honor, conferred by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform network, is Clifton’s second designation as a School to Watch. Clifton was previously recognized in 2017, the same year it was named a California Gold Ribbon School.
Buena Park School District has launched online enrollment for the 2020-21 school year, providing families with a fast and easy process to register children and take advantage of the District’s rigorous academics and enriching extracurricular activities. Buena Park School District offers extensive programs and activities, including coding and STEM classes, visual and performing arts, video production, college preparation and multimedia and communication.
Whitaker School second-grade teacher Jennifer Feeney is sparking creativity and academic interest in her students by creating engrossing activities during at-home learning sessions. Feeney, a 22-year veteran of the Buena Park School District, said she’s found major success with online learning by following one simple rule: make learning fun.
Free drive-through COVID-19 tests will be provided from Tuesday, April 14 through Saturday, May 9 at Baldwin Park Unified Adult and Community Education Center to Baldwin Park residents who exhibit symptoms of the illness or who have had contact with a person confirmed to have the illness. The tests are being provided through a partnership that includes Vital Medical Services, Baldwin Park Unified and the City of Baldwin Park.
Bonita Unified School District Board of Education Vice President Matt Lyons is resigning his seat effective April 16.
Lyons was appointed to the Board in December 2017. His term runs through December 2020. He has served as vice president since December 2019.
Río Hondo College is serving hundreds of meals through a drive-through food pantry and is providing 400 Chromebooks to assist students, faculty and staff during the COVID-19 health crisis that forced a shift to online instruction and remote student services. The services are one piece of a massive expansion of student support launched by the College since shifting to online instruction on March 16. The College now provides online services across all student groups, including special programs structured for single mothers, economically disadvantaged students, former foster youth, veterans and others.
