  • Fontana Unified Kicks Off 2025-26 School Year with New Beginnings, Historic Milestones

    Colorful signs, lively music, and cheerful staff welcomed back more than 30,000 Fontana Unified School District students, who greeted each other with smiles, hugs, or fist bumps, for the first day of the 2025-26 school year on Aug. 6. The first day of the new academic year marks a new chapter for all 44 Fontana Unified schools – many of which have earned recognition, including California Schools to Watch, California Distinguished Schools, and California Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Coalition Awards, among other honors.

  • Fontana Unified Completes Historic Renaming of O’Day Short Elementary School, Honoring Family’s Legacy

    Less than 24 hours before the start of the 2025-26 school year, Fontana Unified School District (FUSD) celebrated the renaming of O’Day Short Elementary School on Aug. 5, honoring the courageous legacy of the Short family, who inspired the renaming of the school after breaking Fontana’s color barrier at the school site nearly 80 years ago. Fontana Unified hosted the official renaming ceremony for O’Day Short Elementary – previously named Randall Pepper Elementary School – at the school’s campus, drawing a standing-room-only crowd of school and District staff, students, residents, elected officials, and two living relatives of the Short family.

  • Fontana Unified Strengthens Leadership Team with 12 New Appointments for 2025-26 School Year

    Fontana Unified School District (FUSD) is heading into the 2025-26 school year with 12 new administrative appointments, including five interim appointments, as part of a strategic reorganization designed to optimize leadership assignments within the District. Two Fontana Unified administrators took on new roles within the reorganization at the District level, with former school principals Christopher Hollister, Ed.D., and Patricia Corral, Ed.D., named Executive Director of Secondary Education and Interim Executive Director of Classified Human Resources, respectively.

Fontana Unified Students Return in Triumph from World Robotics Contest

Wayne Ruble Middle and Randall Pepper Elementary robotics students made a triumphant and award-winning return from the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) Friendship Invitational, after dazzling the global community with their expertise, teamwork and sportsmanship. The international competition, held Aug. 1-4 in Aarhus, Denmark, netted the Randall Pepper LEGO Panther squad with the International Friendship Award for their slogan, “3 Countries, 3 Teams, 1 Friendship,” created in collaboration with students from Germany and Nigeria.

Fontana Unified to Provide Parent Workshop on HBCUs

Fontana Unified School District and Rialto Unified School District, in partnership with the U-Can College Fair, will host a parent workshop from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, providing families with information on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Families can speak to HBCU representatives and alumni to receive an overview of HBCUs, their admission requirements, HBCU benefits and scholarship opportunities. The event will be held at A.B. Miller High School, 6921 Oleander Ave., Fontana.

Fontana Unified Swears In 2019-20 Student Board Member

Jurupa Hills High School senior Juleny Ortiz-Contreras took the oath of office on Aug. 14 to serve as Fontana Unified’s 2019-20 Board of Education student representative. Ortiz-Contreras is an avid volunteer, accomplished student-athlete and International Baccalaureate diploma candidate who hopes to inspire others to become involved in the District.

Fontana Unified High School to Pilot Parent Link Crew Program

Fontana Unified’s Summit High School has been selected as one of two schools nationwide to pilot the Parent Link Crew program. Summit High’s Link Crew program, awarded the 2016 Golden Bell Award by the California School Boards Association, provides freshmen with mentorship and guidance from upperclassmen.
