    Fernando R. Ledesma High School students delved into the complexities of the legal system through a realistic mock murder trial experience on March 15, gaining insight into the workings of the modern judiciary firsthand. Dubbed “People vs. Hayes,” the mock murder trial served as the final project for Fernando Ledesma seniors. The murder trial simulation aimed to foster a deeper understanding of court proceedings and encouraged students to use their critical thinking, research, and public speaking skills throughout the trial.

    Arroyo High School has been recognized as a 2024 California Distinguished School, one of just four schools in the San Gabriel Valley to receive the honor from the California Department of Education (CDE), for its outstanding efforts in closing the achievement gap for students and producing exceptional scholars. Arroyo was one of 293 schools across California recognized by the CDE. Arroyo High's achievement follows its recent six-year accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in 2023. El Monte Union to Hold Public Hearing on Board Election Process

El Monte Union High School District will hold the second in a series of public hearings as part of the transition to a by-trustee election system at the District office, 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 1. The hearing will invite public comments and input regarding the composition of the voting areas in advance of the preparation of draft trustee voting area plans by the District’s demographer. Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to participate. The El Monte Union Board Room is located at 3537 Johnson Ave., El Monte. El Monte Union 2021 Graduate Takes Talents to the Next Level in College and Career

Throughout her childhood, South El Monte High School Class of 2021 graduate Heather Gomez discovered a joy for playing soccer and a love of children. Gomez, who helped lead the SEMHS Eagles girls soccer team to a state championship in 2019, is taking her athletic prowess and dream of a career as a pediatrician to Montevallo College in Alabama. Gomez graduated with a 3.8 GPA, completed eight AP classes and holds the school record for most goals scored, totaling 29 -- one of the scholar-athlete’s many accomplishments on the field.

In keeping with California’s emphasis on zero-emissions technology to support improved air quality and combat climate change, students from the El Monte Union High School District, community members and California Air Resources (CARB) representatives will greet the first of a brand new, all-electric school bus fleet – part of a $9.8 million Clean Mobility in Schools pilot project.

El Monte Union Returns to In-Person Instruction with New Start Time

The El Monte Union High School District will begin the new school year on Tuesday, Aug. 17, welcoming students back to campus for in-person instruction five days a week. EMUHSD schools will have a new start time of 8:30 a.m., which will go into effect across all campuses on the first day of school, and conclude the instructional day at 3:30 p.m. The District is offering an independent study program for students who cannot return for in-person instruction, known as the Online Personal Learning (OPL) program. El Monte Union Receives 4 of 11 Electric Buses as Part of Clean Mobility Project

El Monte Union High School District received the first two of 11 electric buses on July 21 and two more on July 22 as a part of the District’s participation in the Clean Mobility in Schools Pilot Project, made possible by the $9.8 million grant awarded by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). This new fleet of electric buses is a part of the District’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, creating a healthier environment for students, families and staff. El Monte Union’s participation in the Clean Mobility in Schools Pilot Project promotes the use of zero-emission vehicles and clean transportation options for its school community, thanks to the CARB grant.

EMUHSD Receives 11 Electric Maintenance Carts for Clean Mobility Initiative

El Monte Union High School District received 11 all electric 2021 Gem Polaris eM 1400 LSV utility maintenance carts on Wednesday, June 23 as a part of the District’s participation in the Clean Mobility in Schools Pilot Project, thanks to the $9.8 million grant awarded by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Up until Wednesday, the District mostly had gas-powered utility maintenance carts in its inventory – the John Deere Gators. Each school has approximately two Gators utilized by the maintenance staff for lawn and field maintenance. Mountain View High School Plant Manager Danny Herrera is an El Monte High School graduate and has worked at the District for roughly 35 years. Herrera actually alerted the District to a utility maintenance cart deficit. Herrera would walk to destinations, allowing his colleagues to take his own cart, due to a utility cart shortage.

El Monte Union High School District will provide community members with Grab & Go Meals from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesdays and Fridays, at Arroyo, El Monte and Mountain View high schools through Tuesday, Aug. 10. Arroyo High School is located at 4921 Cedar Ave., El Monte; El Monte High School is located at 3048 Tyler Ave., El Monte; and Mountain View High School is located at 2900 Parkway Dr., El Monte. Arroyo High Student-Athletes, Twin Sisters Win Gold at Pan American Championships

El Monte Union High School District twins Brianna and Emilie Gonzalez have gained national recognition after competing and bringing home gold medals from the 2021 Pan American Wrestling Championship tournament, held this month in Oaxtepec, Mexico. The EMUHSD Board of Trustees honored Brianna and Emilie during the June 16 meeting, celebrating them for their success and dedication to the sport with certificates of recognition and words of appreciation from Arroyo High School’s girls wrestling Coach Can Tran.

El Monte Union High School District honored 21 teachers, classified and certificated staff who are retiring after contributing a combined 540 years of service to the District, during the June 16 Board of Trustees meeting. EMUHSD employees were recognized and thanked for their years of service and dedication to students.

El Monte Union Class of 2021 Reunites, Celebrates Success during In-Person Graduation Ceremonies

El Monte Union High School District honored the Class of 2021 with in-person graduation ceremonies for El Monte, South El Monte, Rosemead, Arroyo, Mountain View and Fernando R. Ledesma high schools, inviting graduates, family members and staff to celebrate together after a year in remote learning. The ceremonies, held June 3 and 4, brought students and families back to the schools’ outdoor stadiums and courtyards, where they followed safety protocols that included masks and social distancing.
