WHAT: Ushering in the holiday season with music ranging from uplifting classical works to fun Christmas favorites, the choirs of Whittier Union’s five comprehensive high schools will celebrate through song during the District’s Winter Choral Festival.

Choral groups from California, La Serna, Pioneer, Santa Fe and Whittier high schools will have the opportunity to perform their pieces and receive critiques on styles and techniques from this year’s clinician, Nicola Bertoni, voice and music theory teacher and director of the Concert Choir and Women’s Chorale at Fullerton College.

WHEN: 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30

WHERE: Whittier College Memorial Chapel, 11345 Miller Road, Whittier, CA

DETAILS: The annual concert is an opportunity for the choirs and their directors to come together to listen and learn from each other as well as from a well-respected clinician. Bertoni has performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic, and participates as a member of the choir-in-residence for the Spoleto Festival USA in South Carolina. Each of the District’s comprehensive high schools offer beginning, intermediate and advanced choral and instrumental music programs and theater arts courses. California and Whittier high schools offer dance programs. The choral ensembles have performed in local, regional and national competitions in such venues as Carnegie Hall and the Walt Disney Concert Hall. Directors are David Carter, La Serna High; David Kwon, Santa Fe High; Jesse Mezza, Pioneer and Whittier high schools; and Dan Hawkins from Cal High.
