WHAT: More than 350 students from Lynwood’s Firebaugh High School will receive their diplomas at Whittier College. Of the graduates, more than 50 percent will be moving on to four-year universities including UCLA, UC San Diego, University of Virginia, UC Berkeley and UC Irvine. About 86 percent of the graduating students have committed to higher education or the United States military.

WHERE: Whittier College Memorial Stadium, 13847 Earlham Drive, Whittier

DETAILS: Valedictorian Jesus Garcia, who will be attending Cornell University, and Salutatorian Leo Vega, who is moving on to UCLA, will address attendees. Whittier College, which was founded in 1887 by Quakers, is most famous for being the Alma Mater of President Richard Nixon. The ceremony will take place at the college’s Memorial Stadium. Graduates will begin arriving at 4:30 p.m. Ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. Media should arrive early as parking is limited on the campus.
