WHITTIER – Rio Hondo College will launch its annual Freshman Welcome Days on Tuesday, July 28, the first of four opportunities for students to get a helping hand to ease the transition into their first year at the highly regarded community college.

The program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Rio Café at the center of the 3600 Workman Mill Road campus. Activities include free breakfast, campus tours, registration assistance and financial aid review. Workshops provide advice on selecting a major and detail resources for new students.

“Our entire campus comes together for our Freshman Welcome Days – the first in a rich array of programs Rio Hondo College provides to help ensure the success of our students,” said Superintendent/President Teresa Dreyfuss.

Freshman Welcome Days continue on Wednesday, July 29; Thursday, Aug. 6; and Wednesday, Aug. 12.

Registration is required for the highly popular event, which can accommodate 100 students each day. July 28 programs are at capacity. Students may sign up at startatrio.eventbrite.com.

“Starting college is a life-changing experience,” said Rio Hondo Board of Trustees President Madeline Shapiro. “It’s a time when students often struggle on their own. Our Freshman Welcome Days program ensures students don’t need to go it alone. Our college family is there to support and see our students succeed.”
