WHAT: Rio Hondo College will host up to 500 middle and elementary school students from 10 schools in eight local public school districts for its first-ever Discover Rio Day! Event showcasing public service career programs in nursing, firefighting and police services, how to prepare for college and campus programs that help students transfer from community colleges to four-year colleges and universities.

WHEN: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18

WHERE: Rio Hondo College’s Wray Theater, 3600 Workman Mill Road, Whittier

DETAILS: The event, which will include presentations, campus tours and lunch, is being hosted by the entire campus with the backing of the Board of Trustees to promote early awareness of higher education across the Rio Hondo Community College District.

Participating schools include: Kranz Intermediate School, Columbia School, The STEAM Academy at Burke Middle School, North Park Academy of the Arts, Dean L. Shively Middle School, Walter F. Dexter Middle School, Richard L. Graves Middle School, Los Nietos Middle School, Hillview Middle School, and Scott Avenue Elementary.
