POMONA – The Pomona Unified Adult and Career Education Department is celebrating its 80th anniversary during a festive event on Thursday, April 23 to commemorate its many accomplishments in ensuring student success in the greater Pomona Valley community.

The program will run from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Pomona Adult Career and Education Center, 1515 W. Mission Blvd., Pomona.

The Adult and Career Education Department – which serves more than 2,500 students in various academics and career technical programs – will recognize several of its accomplishments, including earning the maximum six-year terms granted by the Council of Occupational Education for its Career Technical Education program and by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

The Department offers programs to help students earn their high school diploma and GED, as well as support in citizenship, English language and adult basic education.

Some of the career tech programs offered at the Department include medical assisting, cosmetology medical billing, coding, barbering, machinist CNC and MasterCAM.

It has also provided greater educational opportunities by launching partnerships with Mt. San Antonio College, Chaffey Community College and the San Antonio Regional Occupation Program. Other extensive partnerships include the California Economic Development Department, Pomona Chamber of Commerce, City of Pomona, Veterans Learning Centers of America, APEX Learning and WIN Learning’s Personalized Career Readiness System.
