Baldwin Park High School Students Explore Triumphs, Tragedies in History

Students filled the Baldwin Park High School gym on Feb. 21 with passionate debates on topics ranging from Roe v. Wade and the Tet Offensive to the #MeToo movement and the fall of the Berlin Wall. The discussions were part of Triumph and Tragedy in History Day, which featured more than 80 poster boards articulating perspectives on historical topics along with presentations in website formats, as dioramas and interactive displays. El Monte Union Science Olympiad Team Advances to State Final

The Rosemead High School Science Olympiad team will return to the Southern California State Science Olympiad Tournament for the first time since 2016. The final will be held Saturday, April 6 at Caltech. The 15-member Panther squad scored a fourth-place finish at the nearly 30-team Los Angeles County Science Olympiad, held Jan. 26, advancing to the finals. Every member of the Panther team placed in the top six in at least one of the 23 events.

Inglewood Unified to Celebrate Student Art at Inaugural Taste of Art Showcase

Inglewood Unified held a districtwide celebration of the arts with musical performances, art galleries and choreographed dance during the first annual Taste of Art event on March 9. The award-winning Inglewood High School marching band joined the district’s 18 schools in displaying arts, crafts, music and theatre during a day that showcased the programs and talents of IUSD schools and students. Mt. SAC Early College Academy Orientation to Welcome New Students

West Covina Unified’s Mt. SAC Early College Academy will welcome new students for orientation from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 7, offering a glimpse of campus life and academics. The dual-enrollment high school provides students the opportunity to earn a diploma and up to two years of transferable college credit simultaneously.

West Covina Unified to Engage Families with Parent University Workshops

West Covina Unified will hold its latest Parent University workshop on Wednesday, March 6, offering tips on executive functioning and organizational skills, student behavior and homework tips. The workshop will run from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the WCUSD office, 171 W. Merced Ave., West Covina. The evening session may also be attended via a Google Hangouts video call.

Baldwin Park Unified to Host Inaugural District Showcase

Baldwin Park Unified’s 20 schools will highlight key programs during an inaugural District Showcase from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 2 at Morgan Park, 4100 Baldwin Park Blvd., Baldwin Park. The showcase will feature interactive booths and displays, including the award-winning Dual Language program, science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) opportunities, and an array of career technical courses.

West Covina Unified Named to 9th Annual AP District Honor Roll

West Covina Unified was named to College Board’s ninth annual AP District Honor Roll for its commitment to increasing student access to college-prep Advanced Placement courses while increasing the percentage of students earning passing scores of 3 or higher. West Covina High School, which offers 27 different AP courses, was recognized by the Board of Education for its efforts in boosting AP student success during a Feb. 12 meeting.
