Lynwood Unified to Dedicate New Athletic Field at Middle School
Lynwood Unified will welcome parents, students and community members to a dedication ceremony for the District’s new athletic field at Lynwood Middle School, 12124 Bullis Road, Lynwood. The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 28. The athletic field will feature space for soccer, football and track and field. It will be available to multiple schools, including Firebaugh High.
Baldwin Park Unified Administrators to Shadow Support Teams
Baldwin Park Unified School District, in partnership with California School Employees Association (CSEA) chapter 28, will celebrate the contributions of classified employees with a job-shadowing program from 7:45 a.m. to noon Wednesday, May 22. Principals, assistant principals and district-level administrators will shadow custodians, food service employees and bus drivers.
Students in Edgewood Schools’ International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) lit up as they presented a zero-waste challenge, the impact of social media, a comprehensive look at “The Sound of Music,” video game design, the history of the Space Age and more on May 9 during Edgewood’s first-ever Personal Projects Exhibition. The Personal Project is the culmination of the five-year MYP, which serves students in grades six to 10. Students are encouraged to conduct independent research that explores a personal interest and demonstrates MYP-taught skills like critical and creative thinking, self-management and communication.
Monrovia Unified to Honor Teacher for 50 Years of Service
Monrovia Unified School District will celebrate Anne Battle, a Monrovia High School photography
teacher who has been with the District for 50 years. The celebration will take place during the District’s
regular board meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 22 at Monrovia Unified District’s Board Room, 325 E.
Huntington Drive, Monrovia.
Sierra Vista High School CIF Champion Soccer Team to Host Ring Ceremony
Sierra Vista High School will host a banner and ring ceremony to commemorate the historic run of the
2019 boys varsity soccer team. The ceremony, to be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, will feature
speeches from head soccer coach Jose Rodriguez Negrete, SVHS Principal Harris V. Pratt and
Superintendent Dr. Froilan N. Mendoza. Sierra Vista’s boys soccer team made school history by winning
the CIF Southern California Regional Division IV title. Community members, parents, educators and
students will join in the festivities at Sierra Vista High School, 3600 N. Frazier St., Baldwin Park.
Gabrielino High to Showcase Award-Winning Speech and Debate Program
San Gabriel Unified’s Gabrielino High School will host its annual Speech and Debate Showcase from 7 to
9 p.m. Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18, highlighting its nationally acclaimed speech and debate
program. Gabrielino students will present 16 acts, showcasing a variety of speech styles and covering an
assortment of topics. The event will be held at Gabrielino’s Gary E. Goodson Theatre, 1327 S. San
Gabriel Blvd., San Gabriel.
The retirement celebration, held at the Doubletree Inn in Uptown Whittier, featured lauds for Dreyfuss from local officials, state legislators and national officials for her many contributions to the College, including its two-year guarantee of free tuition for first-time, full-time students, a four-year Bachelor of Science degree and creation of a strong fiscal foundation. The event was also attended by members of Dreyfuss’ family, area K-12 school district superintendents and presidents of other California community college campuses.
