Lynwood Unified Celebrates ‘Every Student Succeeds’ Nominees
Lynwood Unified held a celebration on April 12 for each student selected as an “Every Student Succeeds” nominee, an honor given to students who have overcome adversity to achieve success. Each school had one student recognized during the awards dinner held at Will Rogers Elementary School.
Inglewood Unified Spotlights City Honors High School Senior
City Honors College Preparatory Academy senior Kalis Collman has been recognized as the first Inglewood Unified Stellar Student Spotlight winner for her academic prowess and will be featured in the Eye On Inglewood digital publication. Collman won the first-ever Black Panther Scholarship, sponsored by Walt Disney Studios and presented by the cast of the movie “Black Panther.” She has earned a 3.9 GPA and plans to study to become a pediatric dermatologist at Loyola Marymount University, where she has earned a full-ride scholarship.
El Monte Union Choir to Perform at Los Angeles Master Chorale Festival
The Arroyo High School Choir will be among the more than 1,000 Southland students to perform in the Los Angeles Master Chorale’s annual High School Choir Festival, giving pop-up performances outdoors on the main staircase of the Walt Disney Concert Hall at 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 3. The main event is the festival concert, performed by students at 1 p.m.
San Gabriel Unified Music Immersion Program to Celebrate Cinco De Mayo
Roosevelt Elementary, home to San Gabriel Unified’s Music Immersion Experience program, will hold a Cinco de Mayo celebration at 5 p.m. Friday, May 3. The event will feature performances from the program’s Mariachi band students, a professional Mariachi band, a taco cart provided Roosevelt PTA and conclude with a movie. Roosevelt Elementary is at 401 S. Walnut Grove Ave., San Gabriel.
El Monte Union to Celebrate Scholars with College Signing Days
Hundreds of El Monte Union students are poised to celebrate an important next step toward achieving their academic pursuits during College Signing Day ceremonies at each comprehensive high school. El Monte High School will hold its event at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 30; Arroyo High School will celebrate on Wednesday, May 1; South El Monte High School will hold a four-year commitment celebration on Thursday, May 2; and Rosemead High School will hold its event from 11:45 to 1:50 p.m. Friday, May 3.
Fontana Unified Students Accepted to UC Summer STEM Programs
Jurupa Hills High School students Carlos Ortega-Cuellar and Elian Lintang will explore college-level science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects through the California State Summer School for Mathematics and Science (COSMOS), a four-week residential program for high-achieving math and science students. Ortega-Cuellar will study engineering mechanics at UC Davis while Lintang will study engineering at UC San Diego.
Monrovia Unified Middle School Distributes Chromebooks
Students from Santa Fe Computer Science Magnet School lined up to receive Chromebooks during the school’s one-to-one device rollout event on April 10, enhancing the school’s commitment to boost student-learner outcomes by providing a quality education that includes digital instruction. In addition to the Chromebooks, students also received chargers and laptop sleeves to protect the computers.
Three Whittier Union High School District administrators have been named Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Region 15 Administrators of the Year. La Serna High School Principal Ann Fitzgerald, Central Office Administrator Carlye Marousek and Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Dr. Monica Oviedo were selected by the Whittier Area School Administrators local chapter for the honor. Region 15 is composed of districts across Los Angeles County. The team will be recognized at a leadership conference on Monday, April 29.
SGUSD Music Immersion Experience Program to Hold Annual Unity Festival
Roosevelt Elementary’s Music Immersion Experience (MIE) program will hold its second MIE Unity Festival at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27, highlighting electives like Mariachi band, folkloric dance, drumline, show choir and more. The festival will be at the San Gabriel library, 500 S. Del Mar Ave., San Gabriel.
San Gabriel Unified Elementary to Hold 10th Annual Art Festival
San Gabriel Unified’s Washington Elementary will hold its 10th annual ArtFest at 4 p.m. Friday, April 26, celebrating student talent. ArtFest will feature choral and instrumental performances and family-friendly activities like chalk art and teacher-led sculpting lessons. Washington Elementary is at 300 N. San Marino Ave., San Gabriel.
