Baldwin Park Unified to Host 13th Annual College and Career Fair

Baldwin Park Unified School District will hold its 13th annual College and Career Fair, an event that will provide families an opportunity to talk to college recruiters and employers and to attend workshops on financial aid and the college application process. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at Sierra Vista High School, 3600 N. Frazier St., Baldwin Park.

Monrovia High School Hosts Annual College Fair for Monrovia Unified Students and Families

Monrovia High School will host its annual college fair, giving students and parents the opportunity to connect and speak directly with admissions counselors from multiple institutions. More than 50 colleges, universities and military representatives will attend the fair along with keynote speakers Rob Schwartz, educational consultant for Premier College Guidance, and Trevor Mizrahi, president of Premier College Guidance. Institutions scheduled to participate include UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, UC Riverside, UC Davis, UC Irvine, Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Los Angeles, Humboldt State University, Biola University and University of La Verne. Representatives from the United States Navy, Marine Corps, and Army will also be in attendance.

Baldwin Park High School Students to Explore CISCO-Meraki Headquarters

Fourteen Baldwin Park High School students in Baldwin Park Unified’s fledgling CISCO Networking Academy will go behind the scenes on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at the CISCO-Meraki headquarters in San Francisco to gain hands-on work experience. During the all-expense paid trip, students will work with the latest networking technologies alongside industry professionals.

Bonita Unified Partners with Community for ‘Principal for a Day’ Program

Business and community leaders from La Verne and San Dimas will tour all 13 Bonita Unified schools from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24. The event, sponsored by the La Verne and San Dimas Chambers of Commerce, will offer an inside glimpse of each school, opportunities for partnerships, discuss workforce development training demands and explore ways to bridge the gap between the needs of educators and business leaders. An optional tour of Bonita Center for the Arts will be provided from 12:30 to 1 p.m.

El Monte City School District Students Craft Mission Statements

Students at El Monte City School District’s Rio Hondo School crafted mission statements to guide their year of learning as part of activities at Back to School Night on Aug. 29. The event helped familiarize families with the school’s teachers, curriculum and new and expanded programs for boosting student success. Rio Hondo’s Back to School Night also featured information stations, a portrait zone and classroom tours.

El Monte Union’s Arroyo High to Unveil Learning Garden

In conjunction with Eco Urban Gardens, Arroyo High School will celebrate the grand opening of its Regenerative Learning Garden at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at 4921 Cedar Ave., El Monte. The event will include garden tours, harvesting, seed planting, yoga, face painting, recycled arts and crafts, guest speakers and more. Vegan food will be provided by the Arroyo High School garden.

Monrovia Unified Elementary Marches to Combat Bullying

Monroe Elementary students will participate in a march from 8:10 to 9:55 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20 to express their commitment to being bully free. The march aims to spread kindness and promote the school’s bullying prevention program, Olweus. At the beginning of the march, students – who will be dressed in blue to promote a bully-free environment – will raise their right hands and pledge to a school culture of kindness and positive peer relationships. El Monte City School District Students Learn Courage, Responsibility

El Monte City School District students learned the importance of courage, responsibility and integrity after attending a series of assemblies connecting those virtues to the District’s social-emotional learning program, Leader in Me. Presented by Camfel Productions, a nonprofit that develops character-building programs and videos for students, the assemblies featured grade-specific videos on anti-bullying, the dangers of drug use and how to be responsible on social media.

Lynwood Unified Holds College and Career Conference

Lynwood Unified inspired students to pursue college and career pathways during the 20th annual College and Career Conference on Sept. 7 at Firebaugh High School. The conference featured college workshops and representatives from universities.

Baldwin Park Unified Recognizes Attendance Awareness Month

Baldwin Park Unified schools are recognizing students for their perfect attendance during September Attendance Awareness Month to promote the District’s yearlong attendance campaign. Slogans and hashtags like “Attendance Matters” and “Glad You Are Here” can be spotted throughout BPUSD to highlight the importance of consistent attendance and why it is essential for student achievement.
