West Covina Unified High Schools Honor Class of 2020 via Social Media
Edgewood and West Covina high schools are ensuring senior accomplishments do not go unnoticed by sharing Class of 2020 profiles on their Instagram pages. Each profile highlights the student’s college acceptances and/or decision, as well as their intended major. West Covina High School, the District’s Advanced Placement flagship school, and Edgewood High School, an International Baccalaureate World School, inspire a strong college-bound culture, even amid school dismissals caused by COVID-19 concerns.
Fontana Unified Invites Community to ‘Be The Light’ for Class of 2020
Fontana Unified high schools are lighting up their stadiums at 8:20 p.m. every Friday for 20 minutes to honor the Class of 2020 as part of the nationwide “Be The Light” campaign. The District is challenging its community to join in by turning on their lights at home each week at 8:20 p.m. to show support for Fontana Unified’s seniors.
Inglewood Unified Students Participate in Virtual Spirit Week
Students from Inglewood Unified School District took part in a virtual spirit week from April 13 to April 17. The spirit week, which consisted of pajama day, hat day, crazy sock day, favorite shirt day and school spirit day, was held in an effort to bring the school community together while on dismissal.
El Monte Union Principal to Retire after 35 Years at the District
Arroyo High School Principal Angelita Gonzales, who has been the top administrator at the school since 2013, will retire from the District at the end of the 2019-20 school year. Gonzales began her career at El Monte Union in 1984, when she was hired as an English language development teacher at Rosemead High. Gonzales filled many roles at the District over the years before coming to Arroyo, where she has overseen numerous praiseworthy instructional programs. Arroyo received a Gold Ribbon from the California Department of Education in 2017 for its visual and performing arts program.
Bonita Unified Staff Honor Seniors with Congratulatory Lawn Signs
Bonita Unified seniors from San Dimas High School are being honored with congratulatory lawn signs all across the city. Teachers, coaches and parents are posing with the signs and sharing them on social media to honor the class of 2020 graduates. The District continues to find innovative and creative ways to celebrate the students, for whom in-person graduation ceremonies are likely postponed or cancelled due to social distancing regulations.
Monrovia High School Ranked as Top School by U.S. News & World Report
Monrovia High School has been ranked in the top 13% of schools by U.S. News and World Report, recognizing the school’s Early College partnership with Citrus College, as well its award-winning career pathways, including its Math and Science Academy – which earned a Gold Ribbon Award from the California Department of Education in 2014 – and Humanities Academy and Video Production Academy. Monrovia earned a score of 87.08, earning a high ranking among approximately 2,600 high schools in California.
Paramount High School Ranked Top School by U.S. News & World Report
Paramount High School has been ranked among the nation’s top-performing public schools by U.S. News and World Report, recognizing the school’s efforts to boost student achievement and promote college readiness. Paramount High School ranked in the top 30% of high schools in the nation on the 2020 Best High Schools list and earned a strong ranking among nearly 2,600 high schools in California.
Lynwood High School Ranked as Top School by U.S. News & World Report
Lynwood Unified received a 2020 Best High School ranking for Lynwood High School from the U.S. News & World Report, which numerically ranked nearly 18,000 schools nationwide this year. Lynwood High is ranked 4,193 in the National Rankings, based on student performance on state-required tests, graduation rates and how well they prepare students for college. Lynwood Unified continues to have an overall graduation rate over 90%.
West Covina Unified High Schools Ranked by U.S. News & World Report
Edgewood and West Covina high schools have been ranked in the top 16% of schools in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, recognizing strong student achievement in their International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement programs. Edgewood High and West Covina High earned scores of 90.41 and 84.32, respectively, earning high rankings among approximately 2,600 high schools in California. Edgewood High maintained its strong ranking from 2019 and West Covina High boosted its score by more than 3.5 points.
Baldwin Park High School senior Marisa Martinez and Sierra Vista High School senior Jade Zuniga have been awarded $1,000 scholarships from the East San Gabriel Valley chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) for their exceptional work in advocating for mental health on campus and de-stigmatizing mental health issues in their communities. NAMI Club members work to spread positive messages on campus and provide workshops for students to discuss mental health and wellness issues.
