Baldwin Park Unified, in partnership with the City of Baldwin Park and Oath to Country Foundation, is hosting an inaugural Mental Health Awareness Fair and Walk from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7. The event will kick off at City Hall, located at 14403 E. Buena Park School District Superintendent Dr. Ramon Miramontes was named a 2021 Superintendent of the Year by the California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators, honoring efforts to improve the lives of students and eliminate the achievement gap. Miramontes was chosen as the “Honoring Our Own” awardee for region 6 – which includes San Diego, Orange, Imperial, Riverside and San Bernardino counties – for demonstrating exceptional leadership in advancing equity and success for Latino students and their families during the 2020-21 school year.
Buena Park School District students are staying physically fit, increasing their understanding about healthy eating and improving their social-emotional well-being thanks to the District’s health and wellness resource guide and fitness calendar. The health and wellness guide launched in January 2021 after a District English Learner Advisory Committee meeting, where parents began asking for new ways to keep their children active and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Whittier Union Students Prepare for Start of 2021-22 School Year
Thrilled to be back on campus and see their peers, Santa Fe High School students prepared for the new school year by taking part in the school’s Program Verification process, which provided students of all grades the opportunity to return to campus and pick up their books, technology, student I.D. cards and class schedules for the upcoming school year.
Whittier Union’s Alternative Education Provides Summer Opportunities
More than 400 Whittier Union students engaged in summer sessions and programs with the United Sierra Education Center, tackling new subjects and recovering credits ahead of the 2021-22 school year. The summer program ended on July 23 with Sierra Vista High School celebrating 34 summer graduates, Frontier High School honoring 30 summer graduates and Whittier Union Adult School recognizing five summer graduates.
Bonita Unified 2021-22 School Year to Include In-Person, Online Learning
Bonita Unified School District will welcome students back to campus for the 2021-22 school year on Monday, Aug. 23, providing in-person instruction five days a week. Bonita Unified will continue offering online learning for students who choose not to return to in-person learning.
El Monte Union Returns to In-Person Instruction with New Start Time
The El Monte Union High School District will begin the new school year on Tuesday, Aug. 17, welcoming students back to campus for in-person instruction five days a week. EMUHSD schools will have a new start time of 8:30 a.m., which will go into effect across all campuses on the first day of school, and conclude the instructional day at 3:30 p.m. The District is offering an independent study program for students who cannot return for in-person instruction, known as the Online Personal Learning (OPL) program. Lynwood Unified will celebrate its remaining Class of 2021 graduates during an in-person summer ceremony that will officially close out a memorable school year. Nearly 100 total seniors will be honored from Lynwood, Firebaugh, Vista and Pathway high schools during a ceremony at the Lynwood Imperial Campus gymnasium that will include Superintendent Gudiel R. Crosthwaite and the Board of Education.
LUSD saw a successful return to in-person commencements last month when the District honored more than 800 graduates at outdoor ceremonies. Last year’s graduating class was only recognized through virtual events due to COVID-19 safety measures.
Summit High School’s ASE Education Foundation Automotive Program has partnered with General Motors (GM), which will donate a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse to help career technical education (CTE) students enrolled in Summit’s ASE Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair class gain the technological skills necessary to become an automotive technician. Made through GM’s corporate donations program, the gift will bolster Summit’s maintenance class, which is guided by GM’s Automotive Service Education Program (ASEP) curriculum and incorporates advanced automotive technical training with a strong academic foundation of math, reading and electronics, as well as analytical and technical skills.
Lynwood Unified Preps for High School Instruction at Upgraded Campus
Lynwood High School will return to its original campus on Bullis Road – which formerly housed Lynwood Middle School – and will welcome the LHS Knights for the first day of the 2021-22 school year on Thursday, Aug. 19 when it unveils an improved campus featuring high school amenities and new technology. Multiple upgrades are taking place across campus, including the addition of new portable classrooms, as well as updates to the dance room and locker rooms.
