Lynwood Unified Elementary Students Showcase Dancing Skills

Lynwood Unified elementary school students showed off their dancing skills during the Conga Kids Spring Celebration event at L.A. Live on May 18. Latin, African, tap and hip-hop inspired dances were among the many performances that took place during the celebration. Student groups from Washington Elementary showcased their new routines after having been finalists in the Conga Kids dance competition in 2019, joined by students at Abbott, Roosevelt, Rosa Parks, and other Lynwood Unified elementary schools. Conga Kids is a non-profit program that provides young students across Southern California with social and emotional learning opportunities, focusing on self-awareness, responsible decision making, self-management, relationship skills and social awareness.

Baldwin Park Unified Robotics Teams Take Top Honors at World Finals

Baldwin Park Unified’s middle school robotics teams from BP STEM Academy closed out an exceptional season in May, with two teams delivering standout performances at the VEX World Championships. Team Hold Up went on a 10-0 run and went undefeated in their division qualifying rounds, and team Something Ain’t Right went on a 7-3 run and ranked 16th in their division qualifying round before making the final round – the first time a BPUSD team reached this level in its history. More than 500 teams were invited or qualified for the VEX World Championship Middle School division.

El Monte Union Seniors Recognized for Culinary Excellence

Students from Mountain View and Arroyo High School were awarded top prizes in the annual Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) Los Angeles – College Scholarship Cooking Competition at Mission Tech College in Long Beach, concluding their studies in El Monte Union’s career technical education program on a high note. Arroyo High School senior Carolina Bon was awarded a $34,775 scholarship to the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE), which has campuses in both Los Angeles and New York City. Mountain View High School senior Denise Heredia won a $33,389 scholarship to the Baking and Pastry program at ICE. In addition, Arroyo High School junior Galilea Orozco won top Junior in her group and was awarded a $400 scholarship to attend the summer boot camp at the Culinary Institute of New York at Monroe College.

Banning Unified to Honor Class of 2022 with Commencement Ceremony

Banning Unified will recognize the Class of 2022 at Banning High School with a commencement ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2 at the Banning High School Stadium, 100 West Westward Ave. Banning High School students will accept their diplomas among family, friends and community members.

Buena Park School District to Host Promotion Ceremonies

Buena Park School District will host a series of promotions, celebrating the academic achievements of more than 4,000 students with a return to in-person ceremonies. Gilbert School will hold its ceremony at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 31; Buena Park Middle School will hold its ceremony at 9 a.m. Wednesday, June 1 at Buena Park High School; Gordon H. Beatty Middle School will hold its ceremony at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 1 at Buena Park High School; Corey School will hold its ceremony at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 2; Emery School will hold its ceremony at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 2 at Thanksgiving Church; Pendleton School will hold its ceremony at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 2; and Whitaker School will hold its ceremony at 9 a.m. Friday, June 3.

Covina-Valley Unified Commencement to Honor Class of 2022

Covina-Valley Unified will be honoring its Class of 2022 with commencement ceremonies at the Covina-Valley Unified District Field. Northview High School students will celebrate their graduation at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31; Fairvalley Continuation School will hold its commencement at 9 a.m. on Wednesday June 1; South Hills High School will hold its ceremony at 7 p.m. on Wednesday June 1; Covina High School will hold its ceremony at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 2. Covina-Valley District Field is located at 220 W. Puente St., Covina.

Whittier Union to Celebrate Class of 2022 with Stadium Graduations

Students from the Whittier Union High School District’s five comprehensive high schools, two alternative high schools and adult school will celebrate the conclusion of their academic journeys during stadium commencement ceremonies at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, Wednesday, June 1 and Thursday, June 2. Ceremonies will be held at full capacity at the District’s two stadiums: Sandra Sanchez Thorstenson Stadium, 9800 Mills Ave., and Dick Torres Memorial Stadium, 10800 Benavon St. This year, the Whittier Union Board of Trustees will honor a group of students from each comprehensive high school with the 2022 Trustee Award. Honorees were recommended by principals, counselors and teachers for outstanding academic achievement and demonstrating exemplary citizenship during their four years of high school.

Río Hondo College to Host Commencement Ceremony

Río Hondo College will host its 59th commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday, May 27 to honor the Summer/Fall 2021 graduates and Spring 2022 degree candidates. The event will take place in Student Parking Lot A and include a speech from Superintendent/President Teresa Dreyfuss, “Profiles of Student Success” presentations by Vice President Dr. Earic Dixon-Peters, and the announcement of the Marie I. Pellissier Award, given to this year’s valedictorian. Río Hondo College is located at 3600 Workman Mill Rd., Whittier.

Baldwin Park Unified to Honor Class of 2022 with In-Person Ceremonies

Baldwin Park Unified will recognize the Class of 2022 with commencement ceremonies for the District’s two comprehensive high schools and continuation high school. North Park Continuation High School seniors will celebrate their milestone while walking the school’s red carpet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1. Sierra Vista High School’s Class of 2022 will accept their diplomas at 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, followed by the Class of 2022 from Baldwin Park High School at 7 p.m. BPACE is located at 4640 N. Maine Ave.; North Park is located at 4600 Bogart Ave.; Sierra Vista High School is located at 3600 Frazier St.; and Baldwin Park High School is located at 3900 N. Puente Ave.

The ceremony schedules are as follows: Granada Adult Transition Center at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 2 at the Adult Transition Center; Fernando R. Ledesma High School at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 2 at Fernando R. Ledesma High School; Arroyo High School at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2 at Bergstrom Stadium; Mountain View High School at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2 at Viking Stadium; El Monte High School at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2 at Lion Stadium; South El Monte High School at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2 at Eagle Stadium; and Rosemead High School at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2 at Panther Field.
