WHAT: More than 20 high school bands from across Southern California will compete at Sierra Vista High School’s 34th annual Field Show Tournament, a celebration of the complex art of staging music and visual performances traditionally presented during sports contests.
The show is one of about 30 held across the region each year as part of a competition among more than 200 local bands, color guards and drum lines. Performing bands are judged on their musical and visual performance and effect.

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016; 12:30 p.m. until evening

WHERE: Sierra Vista High School. 3600 Frazier St.. Baldwin Park

DETAILS: Field show competitions began as a celebration of marching band half-time performances, and have evolved into elaborate productions in which bands form intricate designs and tell stories through music, color guard, drum line and narration.
