WHAT: Twenty-three high school bands from across Southern California will compete at Baldwin Park High School’s 30th annual Field Show Tournament, a celebration of the complex art of staging music and visual performances traditionally presented during sports contests.

The show is one of about 30 held across the region each year as part of a competition among more than 200 local bands, color guards and drum lines. Performing bands are judged on their musical performance, musical effect, visual performance and visual effect.

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, 12:30 p.m. until late evening

WHERE: Baldwin Park High School, 3900 N. Puente Ave., Baldwin Park

DETAILS: Field show competitions, which began as a celebration of marching band half-time performances, have evolved into elaborate productions in which bands form intricate designs and tell stories through a combination of music, color guard, drum line and narration.
