WHAT: Students of Azusa Unified School District will continue the tradition of celebrating Mexican musical heritage for a good cause at the 11th annual Mariachi Benefit Concert from 6 – 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 19.

More than 70 students between 4th and 12th grade representing Mariachi de Azusa and Danzantes de Mountain View will perform. They will be led by trumpet instructor Bobby Loya, the original trumpet player of legendary Chicano rock band Willie G. & Thee Midniters.

Ticket prices are $10 for adults and children under 18 are free. Tickets may be purchased at the door in cash only. Tickets may also be purchased with a check in advance at the Azusa Unified School District office (546 S. Citrus Ave., Azusa) Monday – Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

All proceeds from the concert will support Azusa Unified School District’s after-school mariachi program for students ages 8 – 18. For more information or for tickets, contact the Educational Services Department at (626) 858-6182.

DETAILS: Mariachi de Azusa is an after-school music instruction program provided by the AUSD for district-wide students in grades 4 through 12. The purpose of the program is to foster knowledge and love for musical heritage.
