WEST COVINA, CA – West Covina Unified School District was named to the College Board’s ninth annual Advanced Placement (AP) District Honor Roll, marking its success in promoting college readiness and academic achievement among traditionally underrepresented students.

West Covina Unified is among 373 school districts across the U.S. and Canada and 25 in California recognized this year. This is the second time West Covina Unified – a state-certified district of choice – has been named to the AP District Honor Roll.

“It’s a tremendous honor to receive this recognition, which truly belongs to our hardworking staff and our students,” West Covina High School Principal Ryan D’Errico said. “We are motivated to expand this program and ensure our students have the necessary skills to succeed in college and career.”

To earn placement on the Honor Roll, districts had to demonstrate continuous increases in the number of students taking AP courses and passing tests – as well as a commitment to expanding access to AP courses to students of all backgrounds – from 2016 to 2018.

West Covina High School is the District’s AP flagship school and offers 27 AP courses, including music theory, Mandarin and computer science.

From 2016 to 2018, West Covina High expanded AP course enrollment by 83 students, increased the number of tests taken by nearly 300 students, and secured an additional 110 passing scores. To learn more about West Covina High School’s AP program and academic offerings, visit wchs.wcusd.org/academics.
