WHAT: San Gabriel Unified School District will host a parent workshop on the upcoming California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) tests, which gauge students’ writing, critical thinking and problem-solving skills in math, English language arts and science. The workshop will allow parents to learn more about the tests their elementary school students will take in April and May.

WHEN: 8:45 a.m. Friday, March 10

WHERE: Roosevelt Elementary School Computer Lab, 401 S. Walnut Grove Ave., San Gabriel

DETAILS: The workshops will review the CAASPP testing schedule, offer test-taking tips and teach parents how to read score reports. Parents will learn how to navigate the CAASPP website to support their students at home.

The workshop is designed for parents of third- to fifth-grade students from any SGUSD elementary school, but all parents are welcome to attend. Spanish, Chinese and Vietnamese translators will be available.

The computer-based assessments – administered to students in grades three through eight, and grade 11 – show student performance on the rigorous California Standards, which are in their third year of implementation. The District and schools use the test results to foster academic achievement and growth.
