WHAT: Fontana Unified’s Dolores Huerta International Academy (DHIA), in partnership with the office of California Assemblymember Eloise Gómez Reyes, will host civil rights leader Dolores Huerta for her 89th birthday celebration.

DHIA Students will perform a short skit for Huerta, who will give a speech before being presented with a birthday cake. Huerta will then visit with students in classrooms at DHIA – named in honor of her activism on behalf of farmworkers, immigrants and women.

DETAILS: Dolores Clara Fernández Huerta is an American labor leader and civil rights activist who, with Cesar Chavez, co-founded the National Farmworkers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers.

Dolores Huerta International Academy, a state-of-the-art Spanish dual language immersion magnet school, fosters intercultural understanding while teaching students to read, write and communicate effectively in English and Spanish.
