Willard Elementary School Unveils Renovated Restrooms through Measure O, Enhancing Student Experience
Pasadena, CA — Willard Elementary School students and staff are enjoying newly renovated first and second-floor restrooms, funded by Measure O, that bring a cleaner, more modern, and welcoming environment to the school.
Construction on the second-floor restrooms finished in summer 2024, with the first-floor restrooms now also complete and open for daily use. The upgrades include new concrete flooring, modern wall and floor tiling, and updated fixtures, including sinks, toilets, partitions, and hand dryers – all necessary improvements in Willard Elementary’s historic building.
“The new restrooms are really clean and spacious,” fifth-grader Emma said. “It is a better experience now to use these restrooms.”
The sense of pride students feel in their updated facilities reflects the school’s ongoing commitment to creating a positive environment for everyone.
“The restrooms feel better than using them before,” third-grader Harley said. “They’re really good and nice now.”
The restroom renovations at Willard Elementary are part of a larger effort funded by Measure O to improve restroom facilities across the District. Similar renovations were recently completed at Eliot Arts Magnet Academy, with several more District sites scheduled to receive restroom upgrades in the coming years.
Alongside the restroom renovations, other recent improvements at Willard Elementary have contributed to a better environment for learning and play. These enhancements include resurfacing the blacktop for outdoor activities, repainting playground structures, and restoring the school’s field, which had been damaged by gophers.
“Having nice areas for outdoor play is so important,” Willard Elementary Community Assistant Alejandra Campos said. “When students have a well-maintained field and playground, they’re more encouraged to engage in sports and enjoy a healthier, happier time at school.”
These renovations reflect a broader commitment to investing in Willard’s facilities and providing students with clean, safe, and inviting spaces. With the aid of Measure O, projects like these will continue to enhance District schools’ infrastructure, helping students and staff feel proud of their environment and empowered in their daily learning.
“Our mission is to create school environments that support every student’s learning and well-being,” Superintendent Elizabeth Blanco said. “These facility upgrades at Willard Elementary, and throughout the District, demonstrate our dedication to investing in our students and their daily experiences so that every child feels valued and inspired to succeed.”
