WHITTIER – Frontier High School has been named one of California’s 2024 Model Continuation High Schools, joining the ranks of 31 other schools across the state recognized for their exceptional commitment to providing comprehensive services to at-promise youth.

This prestigious designation, awarded by the California Department of Education, highlights schools that excel in innovative programs addressing the academic, social, and emotional needs of students. Model Continuation High Schools, like Frontier High, employ exemplary instructional strategies, flexible scheduling, and robust guidance and counseling services to help ensure a supportive environment for students working towards their high school diploma.

“Designation as a California Model Continuation High School underscores the daily dedication of our educators to provide unwavering support for our students’ success,” Principal Margie Moriarty said. “At Frontier High School, the story of each individual student is our priority and we are committed to continuing to improve the quality of education for all our students.”

This is the eighth time that Frontier High has been honored with the three-year designation. The school will be recognized at the 2024 California Continuation Education Association (CCEA) State Conference in April.

Frontier High School underwent a rigorous selection process, evaluating their effectiveness, assessments, and utilization of data. This comprehensive process included a peer review panel and an on-site visit to authenticate the school and the implemented programs aimed at fostering student success.

Frontier High’s academic program offers students instruction that is designed to match their needs, learning style, and skill level. The school’s smaller class sizes and individualized learning experiences allow students to make up missing credits.

The school also offers robust support for social-emotional and student well-being, a diverse range of extracurricular activities, and the chance for students to concurrently complete college courses. Additionally, Frontier High students can enrich their educational journey by participating in the school’s leadership class, joining the Whittier Student Chamber of Commerce, attending college visit field trips, and taking part in the annual College and Career Day.

“Congratulations to Frontier High School, principal Moriarty, and our dedicated team of educators and support staff for motivating our students to continually push themselves to achieve new levels of success,” Superintendent Dr. Monica Oviedo said. “At Whittier Union, we do Whatever It Takes to ensure our students have access to the tools and resources they need ‘To Achieve and Maintain Excellence.’ We are so proud of Frontier High and its efforts to continue helping our students get back on track and achieve their academic and personal goals.”
