Whittier Union High School District Celebrates Rising State Dashboard Data
WHITTIER – Whittier Union High School District is proving to be a front-runner in ensuring student success, with 2024-25 California School Dashboard data ranking the District as one of the top four districts in the state, successfully serving a majority Latino, Latinx, Hispanic, and socioeconomically disadvantaged community. There are 995 districts in the state with Dashboard results.
The Dashboard is a color-coded system created by the California Department of Education to help districts track year-to-year progress in key areas of growth. It allows districts to measure successes and identify areas for improvement in the year ahead. Measured areas include four-year graduation rates, suspension rates, attendance rates, and more.
“The Dashboard represents different ways in which our students are demonstrating their learning,” Whittier Union Director of Assessment and Accountability Timothy Liggett said. “Our Dashboard from the 2023-24 school year was very strong, and the new Dashboard for 2024-2025 shows that we are able to sustain really strong results.”
Through the Dashboard, districts can see how they performed on a scale from red, meaning very low performance, to blue, meaning very high performance. The color-coded system also includes orange for low performance, yellow for medium, and green for high.
One of the District’s strongest areas of growth is its graduation rate with a green indicator, which reached a record 93.7% in 2024–25 — well above the state average of 87.5%.
College and career readiness also improved, with the Dashboard indicator rising from yellow to green, reflecting the District’s ongoing efforts to strengthen postsecondary programs and opportunities.
The Dashboard also measures English language arts, math, and, for the first time this year, the sciences. In all three areas, the District’s indicators were green, with English language arts data maintaining its edge and math increasing by 5.4 points from the previous year.
“What I think makes the Dashboard important is it’s not just the work of a few people in the District but the entire organization as a whole reflected in the data,” Liggett said. “It speaks highly to the professionalism and talents of everyone in the District.”
Whittier Union’s Board of Trustees created measurable targets ahead of the school year, many of which are included on the Dashboard. These top areas of District interest include graduation rates and college and career readiness.
One area of focus for improvement for the District is the English learner progress indicator, which is in the orange and declined 2.8 percent from the previous year.
“Rising graduation and college and career readiness rates show what’s possible when strong programs and dedicated educators come together to support students,” Superintendent Dr. Monica Oviedo said. “From classroom instruction to academic and mental health supports, every layer of our system helps students stay on track and pursue their goals. This progress reflects a true team effort across the District to fulfill our mission, ‘To Achieve and Maintain Excellence.’”
