State Sen. Ed Hernandez Honors Baldwin Park Unified Psychologist, Student for Contributions
WHAT: Baldwin Park Unified school psychologist Susan Coats and Sierra Vista High School student Annastasia Phan will be honored by state Sen. Ed Hernandez during the 10th annual Women of Achievement Awards for the 22nd Senate District.
Coats, who has worked for the District for nearly 30 years, will be recognized as one of 19 Women of Achievement. Hernandez praised her for coordinating District counseling programs, establishing a National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) club and advocating for mental health services as a member of the California Department of Education Mental Health Workgroup and state and national school psychology groups.
Phan is being honored as one of two Emerging Leaders. An honor roll student, she tutors and mentors classmates through the school’s Link Crew program. She volunteers for the Baldwin Park Unified Santa Clothes Project and the Greater Los Angeles Homeless count and feeds the homeless through Key Club and her church youth group. Phan, a member of the Baldwin Park Teen Advisory Board, has also served as a poll worker and provides peer support for youth group meetings at the California Mental Health Connection.
