COVINA, CA – South Hills High School students, employees, families, and community members celebrated the grand unveiling of the school’s innovative new library, designed to inspire and support student success, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Jan. 23.

The cutting-edge learning hub features updated technology, dynamic workspaces for both individual and collaborative use, and an imaginative atmosphere to fulfill the needs of South Hills students. The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured addresses by Covina-Valley Unified Superintendent and event MC Dr. Elizabeth Eminhizer, Board of Education Vice President Maria Caceres, and Board Member Maria Cruz, emphasizing the importance of providing students with modern resources to enhance their educational journey.

“When we opened the doors and let students into the new library for the first time, they were overjoyed,” Eminhizer said. “Our students deserve the very best tools and environments to inspire their unlimited potential, and this new facility is a testament to our commitment to their success.”

The ceremony included recognition by state and local leaders, including the City of West Covina, the Office of State Senator Susan Rubio, the Office of State Assemblywoman Blanca Rubio, and the Office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis. The South Hills High Jazz Band also delivered a lively performance celebrating the state-of-the-art space.

Following the ribbon cutting, District and school representatives led guided tours of the library, highlighting its many new features, including advanced digital resources, flexible seating arrangements, and interactive study areas.

“This space is truly transformative,” Principal Terry Abernathy said. “Our students now have a library that not only reflects their needs, but also empowers them to think creatively, work collaboratively, and ‘Fire It Up!’”

The new library stands as a cornerstone of South Hills High’s dedication to fostering academic excellence and innovation, marking a new chapter in the school’s ongoing efforts to equip students for success in a rapidly evolving world.
