WHITTIER – Santa Fe High School’s Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, known for its commitment to preparing students for college, careers, and beyond, has secured revalidation as an AVID National Demonstration School, affirming its dedication to academic excellence and student success.

With its revalidation, Santa Fe High serves as a model for other schools looking to improve their AVID programs by hosting showcases, conducting AVID trainings, offering classroom visitations, and more. Since 2001, Santa Fe High School has been recognized as an AVID National Demonstration site, showcasing its commitment to the AVID College Readiness System.

“We’re extremely proud of our program and its ability to make college accessible to all students,” AVID Coordinator Shauna Hooper said. “One thing that sets our school apart from others is that we practice AVID principles schoolwide so that even students not in the program can benefit from the vital college readiness skills that our AVID students learn.”

Santa Fe High AVID students have access to a wide variety of resources and support including college application and financial aid assistance, career and major exploration, resume and interview preparation, tutoring, guest speakers, and more.

Students in the program also take field trips throughout the year to different colleges and universities in the area, giving them an inside glimpse into college life.

Students not in the program still encounter AVID principles and tools in their classes such as focus notes, article evaluation tactics, organizational strategies, and more.

“At Santa Fe High School, we believe that every student deserves the opportunity to succeed, and our AVID program plays a crucial role in making that belief a reality,” Principal Craig Campbell said. “Being revalidated as an AVID National Demonstration School is not just a recognition of our program’s success, but a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students, educators and support staff.”

More than 380 students are enrolled in Santa Fe High’s AVID program. Students in the program boast high A-G course completion rates, with more than 90% of AVID seniors on-track to graduate and to be accepted into universities.

“Congratulations to Santa Fe High School for being revalidated as an AVID National Demonstration School,” Superintendent Dr. Monica Oviedo said. “Santa Fe’s success sets our District apart as one that is dedicated to providing our students with the tools to thrive, and we are so proud of the Santa Fe school community for this magnificent achievement.”
