San Gabriel Unified Selects 2 New School Principals
SAN GABRIEL, CA – San Gabriel Unified School District has selected Chris Guyer as Jefferson Middle School’s principal and Tuoi Nguyen as McKinley Elementary’s principal.
Guyer brings 17 years of education experience and served as an assistant principal at Gabrielino High School for two years before being named Jefferson’s interim principal in January.
Nguyen has served as McKinley’s assistant principal since 2015 and brings 18 years of experience. Guyer and Nguyen will begin their new posts in the 2019-20 school year.
“Thank all of you for this opportunity, I am honored that you have trusted me to carry out the district’s and this school’s mission to educate and care for our kids,” Nguyen said. “My commitment to that mission is unwavering, and I am grateful for this opportunity.”
Guyer and Nguyen were approved by the SGUSD Governing Board during its April 16 meeting.
“Jefferson is an excellent school with educators who work hard to serve the students in the community and provide an outstanding academic experience,” Guyer said. “It’s been an honor to help lead them in these efforts and I am privileged to be able to continue to do so.”
Guyer and Nguyen were selected from a pool of 70 candidates after an extensive application and screening process that included preliminary interviews before two panels and final interviews.
“Chris Guyer and Tuoi Nguyen are well-respected, proven leaders in the San Gabriel Unified community,” Superintendent Dr. John Pappalardo said. “We are thrilled to welcome them to the ranks of our outstanding principals.”
