WHITTIER – Río Hondo College voters elected Anais Medina Diaz to serve on the Board of Trustees, according to a final ballot count released by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder’s Office on March 12 and certified on March 15.

Medina Diaz will serve Trustee Area 1, which includes the City of El Monte. The seat has been vacant since former Trustee Norma Edith Garcia resigned in July 2020.

“We are pleased to welcome Medina Diaz to the Board of Trustees,” Superintendent/President Teresa Dreyfuss said. “We remain focused on ensuring student success at Río Hondo College and Medina Diaz will provide additional support to ensure our students continue to achieve success.”

Medina Diaz is a public information officer for the Greater Los Angeles County Vector Control District. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in communications from the University of La Verne in 2010, after taking several classes at Río Hondo College. Medina Diaz received a master’s degree in strategic public relations from the University of Southern California in 2018.

“We are happy that the voters have decided the matter,” Board of Trustees President Rosaelva Lomeli said. “With every Trustee Area represented by an elected official, we are ensuring that the Río Hondo College Board reflects the will of the voters and is a window into our community.”

Medina Diaz joins Lomeli, who serves Trustee Area 3, Vicky Santana, who serves Trustee Area 2, Kristal Orozco, who serves Trustee Area 4, and Oscar Valladares, who serves Trustee Area 5.
