Paramount, CA – Paramount Unified is partnering with the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE), and the Department of Mental Health, on a Community Schools Initiative that will increase support services designed to develop strong academic practices and strengthen student opportunities for success.

The Community Schools Initiative, launched this month, will focus Los Angeles County resources on Paramount Unified School District students over the course of a three-year pilot. Paramount Unified School District will collaborate with community partners to provide additional health and social services, youth and community development and community engagement.

Partners include local libraries, health clinics and workforce professionals, who will provide a variety of services, including, but not limited to mental health training and support, crisis support training and student health services to help students develop academically and personally.

The initiative was approved in April by the board of education at LACOE. Paramount High School received site visits in August to help assess student needs. LACOE employees will be stationed at PHS where they will collaborate with the District to serve all Paramount Unified students.

Paramount Unified is one of 15 pilot districts included in the Community Schools Initiative, which will help families achieve results in areas of school attendance, family involvement, academic success and social and emotional well-being.

“We are proud to be partnering with LACOE and the Department of Mental Health on an initiative we feel will help all of our students reach their full potential,” Paramount Unified Superintendent Ruth Pérez. “This is an initiative that will galvanize the Paramount community in support of our children and utilize all of our resources to inspire students.”
